Scribble Jam 2004 – “Jah” and “Buzzkill”

In 2004 I debuted two brand new songs at Scribble Jam. They were “Jah Didn’t Kill Johnny” and “The Buzzkill.” As they were fresh off the page I flubbed a couple lines but not too bad. Both songs ended up the book ends of my A Healthy Distrust album a year later.

I’m not sure the majority of the crowd knew how to react. I mean, this was Scribble Jam of course. Most people are expecting battle raps and punchlines so they can all go “Ohhhhh!!!!!” in unison. Regardless, Scribble Jam is an important part of indie-hop history. A history that is untold and unrecognized by most media outlets and music culture archivists, but some day it will be realized. “Thems was the good ole days, I tells ya!”

So before you read the upcoming show dates, click play on the song below as SFR prepares for the release of their “Rooftop Shake” album (featuring myself, Buck 65, 9th Wonder and DJ Rob Swift.)

An old shirt design has been RESURRECTED

You can’t kill me, motherfuckerrrrrr…

YOU MAY TRY…BUT YOU WILL DIE…

The “you can’t kill me” quote is from the intro of my Civil Obedience song,  featured on the Human the Death Dance album. This t-shirt has been out of print for a few years now, but when I posted the image on my facebook page the people demanded we print more. So we did. And this time around, it comes uncensored. Many thanks to Irena Girlbot for the design and ClassSick Custom for the beautiful print job.

“Waste Age Teenland” – Eyedea’s final album

Face Candy is a musical outfit that consists of Eyedea, Kristoff Krane, Jt Bates and Casey O’Brien. “Waste Age Teenland” is their new album, and it is effectively the last album that Eyedea recorded before his untimely passing. If you haven’t seen my write-up of “The Man Behind the Eyedea” you can read it by clicking here.

GODCAST secrets revealed

Before the internet, most of us experienced times when we’d hear a song on the radio or on a mixtape and we’d have no idea what it was. We’d scramble around and ask other people if they know of a song that goes “Buhhh duh duh DEEE do DEEE.” Sometimes we were lucky enough to be pointed in the right direction. Other times we were doomed to Read the rest of this entry »

Rapture averted!

RAPTURE AVERTED! I hope you’ve all thanked Macho Man Randy Savage for jumping off of heaven’s highest turnbuckle and knocking a most vengeful God out of commission. Macho Man took one for the team and I, for one, am grateful.

Crumble DEMO – includes drums & bonus verse

I’ve decided to share the demo version of my “Crumble” song which was recorded for my “A Healthy Distrust” album back in 2005. People who are familiar with the album version will be surprised to hear the drums (I still think sound strange which is why they were ultimately removed) along with a bonus verse previously unheard.

“They’ve said it every year, but this time it seems like…the end IS near and I’m in line to see the light.”
