Mac Lethal Original 11:11 Sessions CD Available Now!

Mac Lethal Original 11:11 Sessions CD Available Now!

Extremely Rare and EXCLUSIVE. “The Original 11:11 Sessions” CD.

The original version of Mac Lethal’s “11:11” contains 15 unique tracks that did not appear on the final version of his album released on RSE. In Mac’ own words, “While I am very proud of the version of 11:11 that came out in 2007, I have wanted the world to listen to this version for some time now. All of these songs were written in 2004. Death, humor, sensualism. 11:11’s original draft.” It’s understood that Mac Lethal is a prolific artist, so he can easily pump out an album’s worth of material in a month’s time, but it’s a shame that a collection of songs this good did not hit the store shelves. Thankfully, it is now available for those who know where to find it.

1. Absolutely Nowhere
2. Shotgun
3. Hammered In
4. Bloom
5. Toad
6. In My Dreams
7. Bareknuckle Chris
8. Oak Tree
9. Baby Powder (w/ Joe Good)
10. The Original Make-out Bandit
11. The Sketchbook
12. Halo
13. Tummy
14. Epilogue
15. Vanish

New Book by Waxpoetics Available Now at!

New Book by Waxpoetics Available Now at!

Since late 2001, Wax Poetics magazine has pioneered a new vision for music journalism, serving as the nexus between music history and record collecting, and the magazine’s readership has grown exponentially, making musical anthropologists out of average music listeners. ‘Cover Story‘ vividly explores an element of music culture that has withered with the advent of MP3s and digital downloading. Records possess a visual as well as an aural capacity for storytelling, and the record cover – eye candy for the music lover – speaks a language rooted in the environment and era of the music itself.

World-renowned DJs, writers, and collectors selected the rare, unique, and inspired album covers featured on these pages; illustrated as a visual essay, ‘Cover Story’ exhibits the diverse art forms and design styles of the record cover, each telling its own story, graphically narrating the vibrant subculture of record collecting through the art of the sleeve. It’s a must-have for record connoisseurs and art aficionados alike, and as a music, art, and pop-culture book – sized and priced for impulse purchase – ‘Cover Story’ easily spans multiple audiences.

Preface by Brian DiGenti and introduction by Dave Tompkins. The Wax Poetics team handpicked twenty albums apiece, 240 albums in all, twelve chapters

Soft-cover, just over 7″ x 7″ in size, 288 pages, 240 four-colour plates.”

New site, new artists, free downloads, new podcast and upcoming shows!

New site, new artists, free downloads, new podcast and upcoming shows!

SFR is proud to announce the upcoming projects of our newly signed artists!
Sleep (of oldominion), B. Dolan & Alias, 2Mex, Cecil Otter, Jared Paul, Buddy Peace and Curtis Plum. Check out the artist pages in order to get the full run down of what we expect to see from each of them in 2009. You can also sample their music and videos on each of their pages.

Looking for free MP3’s? There’s a free download of a brand new 6-minute posse cut featuring contributions by Sage Francis, B. Dolan, Sleep, Buddy Peace, Aupheus, Jared Paul and Curtis Plum. Yeah, that’s right…Curtis Plum. The song is called “Sea Legs” and it’s the downloadable Clip of the Week on the homepage. Other than that, there is a 10 minute EP by Buddy Peace called “Holy Chrome” which you can get by going to the MP3 Downloads section of our site.

A brand new feature we are now offering is the “Strange Famous Podcast,” which is currently 5 hours worth of hip-hop mixes. Originally heard on Sage Francis’ college radio show “The True School Session” circa 1997-1999, we’ve decided to dig up the time capsule and share with all. This is a lot of underground hip-hop so don’t take it in all at once. Keep your browser open and let it play until you can’t take it anymore. We edited out most of the yapping for your listening pleasure, but we kept in the good stuff.

Lastly, we know there are 5 billion acts at SXSW every year, but we put together quite the line-up for our SFR Showcase on March 21 at the SCOOT INN. Sage Francis, Sleep, B. Dolan, Buck 65, DanVsPip, 2Mex (w/ Look Daggers), Prolyphic, Cecil Otter, Jared Paul and DJ Jester. Check the “tour dates” link on the left side of the page for details and info on more upcoming shows.

SFR is on the grind in 2009. Many thanks to Irena and Danny for putting this new website together. And big ups to Storm for holding the fort down when it was on the verge of falling to pieces. To everyone else who continues to support us, THANK YOU!!!

SFR’s new deejay extraordinaire speaks on his first free release for Strange Famous:

“I planned to put this on each side of a 10 minute tape and sell them with handmade covers and cassette art and all that but in fact never got round to getting the tapes. I bought some – but they were 5 minute
tapes and I couldn’t do it. But it’s still a finished project – it’s pretty much in style with the D.U.B. series, just really edit-intensive stuff. I did all the edits by hand and all the sound oddities are edits and tests I did as I was going along. I think a lot of it had to do with the pent up-ness in me after the album. I didn’t do a crazy amount of really math-core edits on that so I had a lot to get out of my system.” – Buddy Peace

From the mind of B. Dolan, The MAKE RACISTS AFRAID AGAIN Hat is meant to express solidarity with those opposing racism, homophobia, and fascism worldwide.  Anywhere they rear their head, we will combat them.  It's that simple.
