Curtis Plum – Call My Cellphone

Due to AT&T buying out T-Mobile, grumpy Uncle Sage is in the market for a new cellphone and a new service provider. This song by Curtis Plum keeps him inspired during this arduous process.

“Call My Cellphone” is the title track off of Curtis Plum’s debut album on Strange Famous Records. In fact, Plum was essentially signed to SFR based on this song when we stumbled upon it in 2006 (on MySpace of all places.) A full album, also titled “Call My Cellphone,” was eventually delivered to us in 2009. It is now available from SFRstore on both CD and MP3.

Sage Francis – Needle (prod. by Buddy Peace)

Sage Francis & Buddy Peace came together to create “Needle” for Sage’s 2009 mixtape release: Sick of Wasting. Not only did Buddy Peace produce the beat but he lays down an amazing scratch sentence at the end of the song. Beast mode. Limited/autographed CDs of “Sick of Wasting” are available here.

B. Dolan & The Pirate Signal – Col’ Boy (Remix)

B. Dolan will be performing in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas this March. For the full schedule and ticket links click here.

Dolan will be joined on his Colorado dates by Denver’s own The Pirate Signal. When B. heard their song “Col’ Boy” he felt inspired to lace the beat with vocals of his own. The Pirate Signal’s Yonnas Abraham followed suit, contributing a new verse to the track, and the result is this remix which is offered as a FREE DOWNLOAD for a limited time.

Cecil Otter – 1999

Here’s a little free gift for you to play while rocking your brand new Cecil Otter T-Shirt: “1999,” a track from his debut album Rebel Yellow.

If Woody Guthrie, Doc Holiday, and the Pied Piper were looking to play a game of spades, Doc would ring up Cecil Otter.

Rebel Yellow, his first official full-length album, and it is Cecil at his finest. He’s a prophet turned cardshark. He’s striking matches on his whiskers and lighting up your cigarette. He’s buying the saloon a round, then conducting their ensemble with a loaded pistol and a whisky on the rocks.

Rebel Yellow is available from SFRstore on CD & MP3 Download

“Bail It Out” REMIX CONTEST WINNER!

“BAIL IT OUT” REMIX WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT!
Making our way through 80 remix submissions for B. Dolan’s “Bail it Out” RMX CONTEST was not an easy task. The tedium of sifting through that many tracks is typical, but we can’t remember ever receiving this many QUALITY remixes all at once. After much consideration, B. Dolan has decided that the first two runner-ups are:
* BUDDY PEACE London, UK
* THEORY 77 Brighton, UK
THE FIRST PLACE RIBBON GOES TO PORTLAND, MAINE’s FLEX VECTOR!!!

As you’ll notice in Flex Vector’s remix, the vocals are sped up for a majority of the song. We often receive remixes where the producer changes the tempo of the vocals in order to fit them to the tempo of a beat they’ve already pre-made. However, the special attention that Flex Vector gives to the pacing, change-ups, and reconstruction of the entire track prove that the changes to vocal tempo were not forced. They were deliberate. 3/4 of the way into the remix, when the vocal tempo switches from double time to half time, you fully realize the genius at play.

Not only do vocal tempo changes normally turn us off, but this style of beat is not something we’d typically be into. However, when all is said and done, our love of this remix and our respect for its craftsmanship have pushed it above all others.

CONGRATULATIONS, FLEX VECTOR! We will be seeing you this Sunday for the Portland, ME date of the “Church of Love & Ruin” Tour! This tour begins TOMORROW in NYC. Get all details on the tour at www.BDolan.net

If you’re one of the many producers who made a “Bail it Out” remix and you’d like to share it with the people then please feel free to upload it to the RMX group we created here. Also, a great discussion about this remix contest is happening on the SFR forum!
