I did this song with Sole and Skyrider Band for their new album dropping on Fake Four Inc:
Hello Cruel World. <— Clickety click that link and support!
It’s been close to ten years since Sole and I did a song together, but this collaboration broke me out of my year-long recording hiatus. Since then, I’ve recorded at least 10 songs for other people’s projects (two of which are on the upcoming Metermaids album, Rooftop Shake.) We will leak one of those songs very soon at SFR. Speaking of Metermaids, we’ll be playing three shows together in Colorado on July 22, 23, 24.
PROGRESS TRAP LYRICS
Permanent permanent permanent permanent marker.
Crossing out the eyes of your personal monsters.
Placing my rhymes in the words of your mantra.
Take it to the bridge while you’re burnin’ it, potna’.
Free for all free fall.
It’s impossible to read all the writing on the wall.
So I call the names of all those before me
as I summon the son of a gun runner that ignored me.
Like, “Motherfucker, I’m on shore leave…
Complete that sale. I’m a strong breeze.”
Only god can judge so I fall to my knees
and beg, cuz I can’t afford the court fees.
“Oh, that’s why you called me? You portly,
close to 40 year old virgin Mary, mother and Joseph story
doubting heathen, dragon breathing, coffee
stained teeth beastly, me-so-horny,
captain-save-a-Tawny-Kitaen sorta’ shorty.”
Maury, he is NOT the holy father,
and I want you to run this paternity test for me!
“For free? It’s not gonna happen (not likely.)”
Rotted psyche. Rowdy Roddy Piper type,
pipe bombing the suburbs in search of Upski.
Sitting on a perch that’s dirty and dusty.
Mechanical birds are learning to trust me.
Adjust the suit. Tighten the tie.
Entrust the troops with white little lies.
Lace up the boots. It’s just a matter of time.
Prepare to reboot because the war is online.
Gotta fight the fight that fights the good fight, like it or not.
Gotta use what we got…to get what we want.
no old manifestos / no more Denver airport apocalypse frescos / no crows flying off with machetes / no exile in a black snuggy / we do what we must / we do what we can / cuz the tempest in the teakettle overflow and runneth empty / the weak got tears to shed / I got years to set the record straight / respect the dead / and let bad ideas die / honor the living / cuz we still stuck in capitals capitol / guarded by mummies / while my kids still fooled by future Obamas / intervention gives way to representation / just pour the concrete on while I’m sleeping / ma… the railroad is coming to town / we’ll have the finest opium / the freshest linens / the easiest quizzes / while those who came before gave up on answers / already poisoned / with the blood of dodo birds / two ton sloths and ancient penguins / homey I’m just trying to not / be eating by moths and get my props / and the let the cowards talk shit all they want we got this throwing pearls to swine through rap on lock / sage always had my back because he could / we give what we can, while others sleep because we should / kick holes in the god damned empire, / spinning on wheels is higher learning lending is profit we live in reverse, born as old men grasping the innocence of youth / all I ever wanted was a million dollars and round trip ticket to heaven / then I found it was full of cockroaches, Nazis, and the hijackers from 9-11 / bury me a G, cremated with books and thrown into the sea / if not a war criminal for being on the wrong side of history….
