the great actors kicking it in the back rarely get the appropriate recognition. it's really quite tragic. they get typecasted. they get supporting roles. they have little fans becaue they usually aren't "pretty". and they hardly ever get mentioned in the books and by film historians no matter how consistently they steal the scene. but you see them everywhere. you know the face, but the name isn't important.

like this guy.

it's too bad. i was watching Twelve Angry Men the other day and realized I really like:

but it's so easy to forget about him. then i watch a flick that he's in and i am reminded he's compelling every, everytime. Detective Arbagast in Psycho. The chief in Cape Fear. and many many other roles.

the other actor i dig is Ned Beatty

you felt terrible for him in Deliverance. you hated his guts in Network. blah blah blah. i can go on.

say word.

The guy up top is John C. Reilly, I don't know if you knew that or if you were looking for someone to tell you, heh.

Ned Beatty was also good in Homicide: Life on the Streets.

i guess the cinderella story here would be Kevin Spacey. He went from non-descript character actor to leading man. the problem is, his movies stink now.
