are we supposed to have 'faith' in an artist? i dont know if that's really the purpose that an artist is trying to work for. i think art is created from expression, but i am sort of not too sure about the whole having "faith" thing...
here are some artists i like and/or relate to:

sage, atmosphere, trent reznor, vincent van gogh.

i totally agree with the first post. i use to swear that id stop listening to hip hop the day that de la soul released a shitty album. they did... and now i pretty much have. de la was, for me, hands down the best all around group in all of hip hop, or any other genre for that matter.

i'm surprised to see so many people proclaim faith in atmosphere. haha. that's almost funny to me. i dig a lot of slugs music but faith???? i can almost guarantee that atmosphere will fall off hard (or at least violently slip into another reality)...and soon. this seems so obvious to me each time i see them perform lately. i think back to a show of theirs i went to in 98 and how slugs principles and attidutes towards what he does have changed since then. im not trying to criticize, just saying the trend is very clear.

Sage
Elliott Smith (although I've heard he's stuck on heroin, and close to self destruction)
Hayden (singer songwriter who keeps getting better)
Beck
DJ Shadow (who I know is capable of better than the private press)
The Coup
Anything associated with Automator...

hahaha, I have faith in a lot more new artists than the older ones, they're getting older... and older. Who's fresh these days?

"I never want to blow up cuz I never want to fall off"

A lot of artist either fall off once they get big or fall off trying to make songs that they think might make them big in the case of De La. I agree with Philacio to the fullest - thier last 2 albums aren't worth the vinyl they are pressed on. They fucking suck.

I have no more faith in Wu Tang. It only recomfirmed that when Method was in that Right Guard commercial playing tricks on bikers.

I dig Outkast for pushing and changing thier style with each release although my faith will be tested this summer. Atmosphere and Non-Prophets obviously - I don't think either of them are capable of sucking...just because I think they push themselves as artists more than emcees/producers and creating is a part of them instead of a money making tool.

Oh yeah, I got a lot of faith in Mr. Lif too.

Mean Eagle,
I really like that cd you gave me. Thank you. It was perfect mood music when I got to hang out with my girly last week and just chill. Beautiful stuff.

artists i know will 'stay gangsta':

doseone-seems to be enjoying the shit out of his craziness
autechre-intelligent brits who hate everything and everyone that isn't them
tool-damn near ritualistic in their ways
sage-too good at what he does now
godspeed-see tool^
radiohead-love where they are in music universe

artists i'm afraid will fall off:

slug-slipped a bit w/glu. i said A BIT
aesop rock-el producto will get to him
prefuse73-may secretly want to be a much more talented pharrell
rjd2-moby
cex-seems to want to be a superstar

these are all artists currently in the 'my favorite' category

hopefully i'm wrong about the ones who may fall off. hopefully
