POETRY IS NOT JUST PRETTY WORDS... IT IS THE ARRANGEMENT OF WORDS, IT IS PHYSICALLY SEEING ALL OF THE WORDS OF A LINE AT ONCE AND RECOGNIZING THE BEAUTY OF THEIR INTERACTION. IF I VOCALLY REITERATE WHAT I WROTE ON PAPER, IT WILL IMMEDIATELY BE CONVOLUTED TO THE POINT OF ABSURDITY. TO READ YOUR POETRY OUTLOUD IS FINE.. DO THAT. BUT NEVER CLAIM IT'S THE SAME THING. IT IS NOT AND NEVER WILL BE. IT'S JERK OFF SHIT.

HOW DO YOU VOCALLY REPRESENT WHERE A WORD PHYSICALLY "IS" ON THE PAGE. I AM NOT SILLY. YOU GUYS ARE JERKING OFF. WHERE I PUT THE WORDS IN MY POEM IS OF THE UTMOST IMPORTANCE TO ME. I WILL NEVER IN MY LIFE READ THAT SHIT OUT LOUD... NOBODY WILL EVER GET IT, EVER EVER EVER. POETRY IS TO BE READ, JUST LIKE BOOKS ARE. FUCK BOOKS ON TAPE, THAT SHIT IS GARBAGE SMELLS AND SO ARE TEENAGED MESSAGE BOARD PEOPLE WHO CONSISTENTLY THROW ILLOGICAL ARGUMENTS AT ME (YOU ARE EXCLUDED JESSE, I LOVE YOU).

I AM NOW RETIRING FROM THE NON-PROPHETS MESSAGE BOARD.

WWW.SNEEB.COM - COMING SOON. SUCK MY COCK.

funny....cause originally, poetry was never "read"...because there was nothing to read...cause nothing could be "written"

it was memorized, then performed

that's exactly what i said. i don't feel like i really said any illogical arguments. i kind of felt the same way about sneeb's arguments i guess, but if he wants to call me garbage and resign from the board like a little child, and recommend that i fellate him like the "teenager"/juvenile person that he accuses me of being, i guess that's his prerogative. i'm gonna try not to sweat it.

also in response to his various claims as to the wonders of the printed page, i would say that there are things that can be done vocally that he will never be able to reproduce on the page, but they are still essentially poetic devices to me, because they aim to achieve poetic aims.

sneeb, futurist, etc . . . all I can say is I'm disspointed. Poetry was spoken before it was written. I'll take the Oddessy example - Homer was blind. Remember that? Blind as a fuckin bat, so he c ouldnt "see" the words on the page, he just knew what he wanted to say. It was an oral poem long before it was a written poem, passed down through the oral tradition.

the same with Beowulf (which, incidentally, was presented in a kind of song form before it was written down). seriously, someone knows this besides me, right? your all just doing this shit for the sake of arguing, right?

on a side note . . . when is ponspeens dropping his chapbook?

ok just taking strictly the lyrics, rap is definetley considered poetry? regardless of what "term" you put it in. is that right?
or is there no right or wrong answer, thus making this whole thing pointless?

no

this is not poetry

the fat cat lacked crack
so it grabbed a bat
and as he sat on a mat
snapped a rat's back

but I could make a ridiculously bad rap song with that...

why is that not poetry though, mang? it's not too good but so what? if you wrote it and said to yourself "god damn i am a poet, and that is exactly what the hell i wanted to say" then it's your poem. just don't send it to the new yorker or anything, i think you will be sorely disappointed.

you can believe it's poetry all you want

you can believe that shit is chicken if it suits your fancy

that could very well be a bottle of jack daniels

but it ain't...just like it ain't poetry

there is a line drawn...poetry is not just anything. Just like anything isn't just anything. If that feels like poetry to you (and it doesn't), well then good for you.

But just because my shit looks orange to me, don't mean it ain't brown

you can only take your subjective experience of things so far

well i just don't see any objective standard by which we can judge what's a poem and what's not, for everyone. i don't see any point in calling something Not poetry... unless it is prose, or perhaps a large building.
