Your favorite song with the worst lyrics  Reply with quote

This is a thread about a song you genuinely enjoy, despite how terrible the lyrics are.

Link the song and post the lyrics. (I would embed the song if I knew how)

Remember nerds, the conceit of this wonderful thread is that you truly enjoy the song. Don't you dare fuck this up by posting some awful song with dumb lyrics just because it's awful -- post something you truly love. I love this song with all of my heart:

LYNDSAY BUCKINGHAM - HOLIDAY ROAD

I found out long ago
It's a long way down the holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick
Take a ride on the West Coast kick
Holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road
I found out long ago
It's a long way down the holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road
Holiday road

I remember when I was a teen, I loved Bone Thugs' Foe Tha Love Of $.
Especially Eazy-E's verse.
Then I went through a phase where I hated myself for ever liking it.
Then I went through a phase where it was a guilty pleasure.
Now, I'm at the age where it's like, "I like some crappy music! Deal with it!"

It's a really crappy and disconnected verse.
He was probably high and drunk and just mailed it in....
But the enunciation and passion kills it.

Standin' on the corner straight slangin' rocks
Aw ahit! Here comes the muthafuckin' cops!
So I dash, I ducks, and I hides behind a tree
Makin' sure the motherfuckers don't see me
Now my fat sack of rocks hell yeah I stuffed 'em
Police on my draws, I had to pause
And yeah, it's still muthafuck 'em
Now my game is tight, tight as fuck is my game
Easy motherfucking E or Eric Wright it's all the same
Now niggas might trip on how I stacks my grip
I gotta have it bitch
For the love of this shit
MOTHERFUCKERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!

And... While we're on the subject of Eazy-E.....
Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt.
It's not a terribly written song, but the imagery is terrible.
Eazy rapping about robbing a bank, deciding to rape a girl in mid heist, finding out girl was transgender and deciding to shoot girl cuz "this is one faggot that i had to hurt".
I was about 9 when that song came out.
It had so many bad words in it.
It was probably my favorite song as a kid.

I don't really listen to them anymore, but there was a time when I enjoyed 311. Looking back it's sad, but also true. Any number of their songs would qualify for this list. They're not poorly written songs, and in fact they're usually quite catchy, but the whole bro blending of nu-metal, reggae, and rap is pretty cringe-worthy these days.

Prof's song "Moron" is on this list for me.

Ridiculously catchy beat, not one quotable word in it. What does "dancing like an orphan" even mean?

What is bad writing? Especially in music? I know there is. I've always called it hack writing. I think one of the official books says hack means "journalists who generally write dull or unoriginal work" or something. I always thought being a hack meant to steal someone's material or do soulless work (often stolen) for anyone just for money. Or a combo of the two.

I don't know. I get what you guys are saying. Some verses sound too simple. Or lazy. Or thrown together or whatever but if I like a song like that it's typically because of that. It worked for me. So it worked for the song.

And like I know good writing. Everyone you know two. The multisyllabic rhymes that flow ideas and imagery seamlessly. Masters of language. Tirelessly crafted and etched in time for others to study and marvel forever. But that works for that song too. The poorly written stuff will be remembered too.

I feel like someone said this before.

Let's not ruin a fun thing with a bunch of bullshit. Did you see my original post? That's an absurdly written song. I'm not sure how a person even comes up with something like that and still makes it sound good on some level, but it happens and it's funny.

Now shutup and post a song with stupid fucking lyrics that you actually like and we will hopefully find a moment of amusement out of it.

Jesus Christ!

p.s. -- "Turn down for what" is a weak example. That's a dance song with one line. Get outta here with that.

YO Mr Jenkins,

are you serious man? B boy's alpha's got some of the best street poetry lyrics i've ever heard...Their whole album is dope actually beat/rhymewise...

You can just post the first line of the song...check the whole verse from vast aire. And Vordul's verse is dope as well...

My mother said, "You sucked my pussy when you came out
Don't ever talk back
I handed you life and I'll snatch it back"
I'm just a latchkey kid with a snotty nose
High school drop out
Space I'm around need whiteout
And I ain't dealing with no minimum wage
I'd rather construct rhymes on a minimum page
Cynical ways, cats sin for nickels these days
Pulling the chrome out
And you acting like pulling the chrome out
Hated the sound of grandma's crying the crooked letter
You could hear it from the ground or where the sky thunders
Make you wonder about early Sunday morning
Relatives dressed in black and they all mourning
Flows be banging in the paint, throwing elbows
My first fight was me against five boroughs
I lost my first wish
But remembered every detail of my first kiss
That's that Bronx Tale bliss
The holiest of holies
Hip hop, it was '88
Even at the age of 10, phrases levitate
Drinking Little Hug quarter waters
Dodging stray slugs on the corner in that exact order
While you playing, death is what happens
I found the passion in aerosol cans and hands clapping
Back spins, microphones and cats rapping
Linoleum and up rockers, the show shockers
Who rip Lee patches off of impostors
You ain't the real McCoy, you a wind up toy
And it's going to cost you
And that's my B-Boy Alpha
