Amassing a List of Activist / Revolution Documentaries  Reply with quote

Hey SFR Ghost Town -

I'm trying to put together a list of documentaries that deal with social activism / grass roots revolutionary type stuff. I really am looking for things that focus on the practical side rather than theory. I don't wanna give any examples and limit the recommendations, so if you think anything fits, throw up a title or a link if you are feeling gamey.

Thanks everyone!!

When I was at Sundance in 2005 I saw a documentary called "Off the Grid, Life on the Mesa" which was about people who basically live by their own rules in the desert.
Most of the old guarde are war veterans who are conflicted between being pro-American and really hating the government.
What I found most interesting about their style of living is how things got a bit strange once the new breed of anarchists began impeding on their territory and living how THEY wanted to live. Which was not in harmony with the elders.

I was unable to get this DVD for years and I just recently managed to track down a DVD. It was the only one available on Amazon at the time of my purchase. I'm sure you can stream the whole documentary somewhere online. This version here doesn't work for people in the US:

I like "The Take".

It's about this Mr.Burns type fuck who owns an abandoned factory....
..and some honest productive locals who want to contribute to society.

So they reopen as a co-op.

also

submedia.tv is incredible.. "the end of the world as we know it" is one of the coolest things on the internet... while it focuses on radical philosophy(anarchism) it covers activism in a way that makes democracynow look real middle ground. its hillarious and fun as well. because he focuses on struggles all over the world that are often never reported, by watching old episodes you can learn a shit ton about what people have done and are doing all over the world.
