I'll give it the old college try.

...and that didn't take long. It's going to take some real effort to hack this feature into phpBB 2. The suggestion english bob made is for phpBB 3.

Alright, so I found something that might work but it requires access to yer files to hack this sucker in. Feel free to email me at [myusername]@gmail so we can arrange things if you're okay with that.

Thank you Mr. Redball,
As this is out of my realm of expertise, I've emailed BringThatBeatBack to bring him up to speed on what we're hoping to do here. Thank you for helping out. I'm sure this forum could survive without youtube embeds, but it would be hard going. Haha.

Well I did find a pretty detailed instruction for how to do it. Let me know if you need anything else.

I definitely agree, it'd be best to use this opportunity to upgrade the forum. Still, it seems pretty easy to modify the code a little bit and add the tag. That's what I planned to do.

Here's the walk through I found to adding the youtube tag to phpbb2:
http://westernstudios.net/tutorials/page/phpbb2-add-youtube-video

Seems pretty straightforward, Search for another bbcode tag and add in appropriate code for the youtube one. The biggest problem I see there is that I'd have to use the new youtube embed code instead.

While we're on the topic of the forum itself........
why's it taking so long to load these days? I stare at my screen for a good 20 secs on some days just for the main page to load. On different computers

I'll have that looked into as well. I think it's hosted by a different place than our site is.

No idea. Still waiting on info or updates.
Also, I've notice people embedding youtube videos that have no "old embed code" option. Wondering what's up with that. Spill the beans, people!

Here's what I have been doing. I copied this to a notepad txt file.

Code:
<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxxxxxx?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>

Just copy this and paste all the crap on the youtube url of the video you want after the "=" and substitute it where I have all the "xxxxxxx" action above (leave everything before and after).

v/xxxxxxxx?

For the url https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRNGpATRCrI I used:
Code:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/TRNGpATRCrI?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed>
