I think your issue is with yourself associating every hippie girl you see and hear with someone else you're minutely familiar with. You don't know any of them.

You're telling me you don't play the guessing game with random people? People watching is an art. Master it.

Been waiting for this for quite some time. I'm kinda meh on the single though. And, to be honest, I wondered the same thing about him and El.

I did notice (just now) that they are not following each other on twitter. odd.
My guess would be it is over business, and probably one of the reasons DJX has been put on hiatus. I never would have speculated on this if it wasn't for those posts earlier.

I keep waiting for Aesop Rock to switch it up. Feels like I'm at the DMV.

there was all the vast aire talk a few years ago about how can ox and aes never saw their pay days for their albums, maybe it has something to do with that, but i don't think i would keep releasing albums on a label that didn't pay me.

I bet the dude from Living Legends is loving the fact that Aesop Rock's name got taken by a more "successful" rapper.

Hip-hop justice yo.

I'd bet all of my marbles that Aesop Rock's record sales dwarf A$ap Rocky's career-wise, and most of my marbles that album to album they're competitive in 2012.

So, I don't think there's any measure of success other than "current internet/hipster darling" where A$ap is earning a claim.

There's no justice, there's just-buzz.

I don't even know if ASAP Rocky will have an album for sale to make a comparison. But his music has reached millions upon millions of people in just the last year and actually gets notice from people that were not late 90s/early 2000s hip hop dorks like myself.

Shit, The Grouch has probably sold more records than Schoolboy Q, but if we are talking about who is more relevant/popular/successful right now, I don't think it's even a debate.

I love how all these new rappers are looked down on as the hipster artist of the month. Like there is no way that anyone could actually enjoy ASAP, Danny Brown, Black Hippy, OF, Lil B or Keef for anything other than their ironic appeal to hipster bloggers.

It's like railing against internet blog buzz is the new anti-mainstream for some of us rap dorks. Like, how can people possibly think this guy is a good rapper? There's no multis! He just said (s)wag 15 times!

I would love to see the look on Qwel's face when he sees how many youtube views Chief Keef has.

At the end of the day, it's your average swashbuckling carpetbagger vs. pretty motherfucker debate.

I agree with the general sentiment, Tommi, but in the end it comes down to beats and rhymes. If you can blend both of these in an engaging and eminently headnoddable way, I will listen to you.

Really? Did I miss something? Does your mom know who A$ap Rocky is? My mom doesn't. He ain't Kanye man. The internet is just excited about him, and you might just be an aging 'rap dork' who's over-eager to be part of what the current crop of 'rap dorks' are into.

Some blog rappers are mediocre and overhyped. Don't let your insecurity about your age prevent you from admitting that truth. haha. Remember Charles Hamilton? Wale? Remember how Jay Electronica was Jesus Christ a year ago?

That said, some 'blog rappers' are good. I listen with an open mind, want shit to be good, and judge everything on the merits of what it's trying to be. That said, I don't enjoy dude's music.

Clams casino beats are great. A lot of A$ap's production is super exciting and interesting. He, on the other hand, is one of the most boring and derivative rappers I've heard in a minute. He seems to have absolutely nothing to say, and to just hold down the middle of the road between Lil B and Drake w/ the addition of a competent Bone Thugz impression. He bores me to fucking tears.

You make it sound like I said "pfff fuck A$ap! That new KRS album out on Koch is going to be FIRE!"

There's a difference in that the Aesop album will be relevant. Aesop (and El-P for that matter) are going to excite and get love from a ton of the same places that this dude is on in 2012. The difference is they're O.G.s who have been making innovative music and gaining new fans for about two decades. When A$ap can say that I'll be happy to re-open the 'success' comparison with you.
