Make Me Like Jay-Z

Lots of people consider him to be of the greats but I never understood what all the fuss was about. I heard a few decent verses from him, but nothing that really wowed me. Post some tracks and prove me wrong.

Ayyyeee... This'll be a heated convo if it survives.

Jay is a certain kind of emcee, but I fuck with him. Especially when I'm in a good mood, and it's a nice day.

He knows his lane and I'd argue that he's made great music in it. I think his greatest contribution to rap is his style of writing in a way that is 'catchy'... his lyrics have a mix of 'clever' and 'simple' that causes me to know the words to a Jay-z song after only hearing it a couple times.

It's something about the space he gives his lines, etc. Kanye and obviously a million others have taken that style and made careers out of it, but Jay-Z certainly perfected it in a way.

Also, his beat selection has been pretty fucking impeccable over the years. He's certainly been hit or miss, but when he hits it he knocks it out of the park.

seems like the problem is you are just focusing on his mainstream appeal / singles/ radio, if you actually listen to his albums as a whole, you'll realize how good of an emcee he really is, he's got some stories to tell
