Hitchens Tribute "THE GODCAST IS NOT GREAT"
We lost a great writer, journalist, debater, intellect and free thinker to cancer on December 15, 2011. Much can be said about Christopher Hitchens, some good and some bad, but rather than speak in his defense I’d rather just let the man speak for himself. No one can do it better.
This 38 minute tribute is a collection of audio clips taken from Hitchens’ debates, interviews & speeches. Similar to previous Godcasts, the music is a mishmash of various genres and song clips, ranging from the familiar to the obscure, all arranged and edited by yours truly. You can download it for free by clicking the “down arrow” on the Soundcloud audio player.

This was great.
I'll probably get a lot of mileage out of this mix. |

Thanks guys. Definitely appreciate the love. A couple random people have commented on how they think the music is too distracting (some even say the music is just plain shitty) which I don't take too seriously but I do put it into consideration. The goal was to make this an enjoyable listen with some ebb and flow in the music and tone. I also tried to make sure most of the music had some kind of connection to the clips I used. I couldn't obsess tooooo too too much about that so I kind of threw caution to the wind on a few of the segments. Personally, I'm way into it. It's my kinda thang. But I can also understand how someone who just wants to hear Hitchens' voice might dislike the mix. |

A couple times I was straining to hear what he was saying over the music. But overall I dug it massively, thank you for putting it together! |

This was fantastic.
Even Bill Bailey's Sandman cover worked beautifully. |

I don’t agree with the sentiment that belief in religion is the chief cause of societal ills. Those I would attribute to lack of conscience and lack of critical thought. A mechanized manner of responding to religion (or anything for that matter) is far more detrimental than the creation in and of itself. |

I don't know the name of it off hand. I'd have to search through my studio computer to find the file. I apologize for being so sloppy, but when putting together Godcast mixes I usually sift through hundreds of tracks and I do the trial-and-error shit until something feels fitting. I try to use music that is obscure or unique in some way, and sometimes I don't even know where/how I found it. |

fair enough. that whole section comes together very well. when my father was dying in hospital we had one nurse attending who was somewhat relentless with her suggestions that we should be praying, the chapel is located here, questions about my fathers beliefs and that our prayers will help "in the long run". given what was happening at the time, "in the long run" seemed quite an odd thing to say. |
