Sorry, but I thought this deserved its own thread, and also the other thread should be left to discuss football.
I've never been so horrified and disgusted than watching and listening to the kids holding a pep rally at Joe Pa's house last night in support of him. To make it way worse, he responded by yelling "Beat Nebraska" to raucous applause. He then said we should pray for the victims and that "life is hard when certain people to certain things to you" (quote may not be exactly verbatim, but close enough).

This is the most heinous thing that's ever happened in sports, and these people showing support for paterno are only making it worse by showing what an insular cult that program is (and this kind of goes for many college football programs). I feel bad for the innocent players and students, but I have not seen any vocal group calling for swift action to get rid of everyone involved.

I understand that, but please realize there are legitimate discussions to be had regarding actual college football, and those should probably be in that thread. If 4+ pages of that thread are about this horrible situation, it will probably just kill all other college football discussions, which doesnt seem fair.
People should read what icarus and others wrote in the college football thread before joining this discussion. Just my .02. Otherwise, feel free to talk about child rape, corruption, and the irrational actions of powerful people in a thread about 20 year olds playing ball. |

Although he's technically supposed to be retiring after the season's over, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say right now there's no way he stays on all the way through the end. The season's almost over and when it is, there's like a month between the end of it and the bowl games. The amount of victims has already more than doubled and the story's like a week old. What happens when the amount of victims hits 50? 75? The media onslaught in that month with no games is going to be insane, as is the pressure for him to be fired if he doesn't go willingly before then. As it should be, obviously. Its not exactly going to make things right for the kids that got abused, but it'd at least be a a small gesture on the part of the university that fucked up so bad that they're at least finally trying to do *something* right in this whole mess. |

My goodness. Shit is really hitting the fan now, eh? As more and more details come to light about this whole fucking thing the more I'm appalled at the gross negligence displayed by Paterno and other Penn State personnel. This sort of thing is unprecedented. I'm watching all the coverage on Sportscenter right now. These Paterno supporters are delusional. Mindboggling. Now Penn State is scrambling to save face. There are going to be massive civil suits against the school and its former employees. |

That was actually a really quick trial, considering the many facets of the case. This kind of thing is always staggering. Sandusky, for all of his cold and distant behavior and apparent lack of remorse, displays clear sociopathy. |
