So what now? Have you found out exactly how far ahead you were from the other entries?

Very cool.

nope no idea, i was on holiday with my girl when we found out. My brothers did a bit of a cheesy interview about it somewhere you can find if you poke about. Will be quiet for a while now as we blow all the money on cocaine and prostitutes. Or prototypes and patents, not sure which yet.

This reminds me quite a bit of the wearable computing stuff Vernor Vinge wrote about in Rainbows End.

Damn, 15 years, that's kind of crazy. It's also kind of depressing how relevant a lot of the song still is, although I suppose progress is a slow moving beast and 15 years really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things.

"It's the health care system, it's welfare victims. It's assault weapons, it's television religion, and it's false lessons. It's cops, police, pigs with badges guns and sticks. It's harassment and a complex you carry when you're running shit."

Also kind of funny how not relevant some of the little things in the song are. It's been a long time since I've heard the Columbia Music Club mentioned outside this song.

When I think of dated lyrics, i think...

"Phone bill about two Gs flat..
No need to worry...
My accountant handles that.."

Like WTF.... Who pays for long distance anymore? Jeez..

Biggie would be a lot wealthier right now if he was still alive..

Marcus.. Ever see this?..

Speaking of Rainbow Connection, there is actually an interesting looking documentary out about Paul Williams, who wrote that song and many other popular songs from the 70's. Here is the trailer.
