i'm not much on instrumental bands but this is my favorite, i consider them more a stoner rock band than metal but whatever. i think i really only got into them because their first album had a singer, but only because roadrunner said they wouldn't release their album without one. anyhow, it's west virginia's own karma to burn

This is an excellent album. Another win for Captiv8.
It reminds me a lot of Grails. |

Did I mention I like that album, a lot? What else have you got for us Captiv8? Anything similar to that is cool, but I'd be interested in anything instrumental or mellow. I've been doing a lot of reading as of late and I like to have music (that won't distract me) playing in the background. |

@ AirTreesWaterAnimals: You're spot on with the Grails comparison.
Doomish/ Drony (some with vocals, some without)
- A Storm of Light/Nadja split called Primitive North
- Jesu
- Khanate
- Burning Witch
- Menace Ruine (a personal favorite)
- Mouth of the Architect
- Electric Wizard
- Atavist
- Tyranny
- Ahab (I've mentioned them on here before; their first album was their rendition of Moby Dick)
Post-Rocky/Experimentaly/ But still metally (generally less inclined to include vocals as well)
- Conifer
- Aethenor
- Red Sparowes
- Locrian
- Russian Circles
- Cloaca
- Om
- Gwynbleidd
Not all of these groups fall neatly into their designated categories, but hopefully this steers you in the right direction. |

Holy shit, Woland. I'm really digging this Oranssi Pazuzu band. What does that translate into?

with all the instrumental talk i'm surprised that pelican hasn't been mentioned, even though i really wouldn't classify them as metal |

From the shiverin spine thread:
Captiv8 wrote: Earth's new record Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light is pretty good. Everything in their catalog is of a similar caliber. Pelican is comparable, but a bit more like ISIS.
