this reminds me of Bob Probert's death last July.

i played football in HS.... but i'd never let my own child play.
maybe soccer or basketball..

Maybe if I was my dad, I'd see no harm in it....
but all this new head trauma science scares me.
i might even hide my metallica and slayer CDs from it to prevent it from headbanging.
...but that might be taking it too far.
i dunno.
i haven't made any kids yet.....
i'd probably be a shitty dad and encourage wrexless behavior..

Are you serious? Have you been following all of the research that's being discovered about the long-term impact of football? All the subconcussive trauma, especially.
If not, here are the NYT's groundbreaking articles on the topic.
Then there was Malcolm Gladwell's on-point (in a non-Gladwellian way) New Yorker piece on the topic.
My kids won't be allowed to play football either. A lot of people are beginning to feel this way to the point that I think it's a realistic possibility that football will go the way of boxing within the next 20 years or so: it well be exclusively a sport in which poor kids abuse themselves. (Well, more like that than it is now) |
