Hiphopsite used to be the bomb...didn't they have exclusive distro for the Slim Shady EP or something before he signed with Aftermath??
Then I think Skillionarre overtook the Slim Shady EP as the highest selling thing on that site...man I could of sworn Thirstin Howl was gonna have way more of a popular career in '99...I figured he would blow up like Em (for some reason) |

I remembe when I first got the net in 98 and watching some live streaming internet radio station where they would have underground cats on there freestyling and so forth....can't remember what it was called but it was more your Rawkus / Lyracists Lounge cats rather than white rap dudes...anyways I remember it was the first time I saw Thirstin Howl and the Spit Squad and they rhymed for like an hour whilst wearing boxing gloves and helmets (possibly mouth gaurds to for Rack Lo)....
For some reason I thought the idea of Spit Boxing, the whole Lo Life / Polo Rican thing was super marketable |

Anybody have the infamous "Gafflin Whips" review? It was hilarious, if wrong. That song was awesome. One of the 5 best post-Co Flow songs. |

How Many Babbee Mova's? I never heard Skilligan's Island.
I never ordered anything from HHI. I read the interviews and reviews. The two that stick out to me are when Ms Fat Booty got torn to shreds and then Black on Both Sides was seen as perfect. Then I remember Benefit's mario brother rap being hailed as an absolute masterpiece. But I liked the site. I'm sure I found out about a lot of new music from there.
Hiphopsite's physical store in Vegas was my shit though. I can't even imagine how many CD's and records I bought from that place before they closed their doors.
All this nostalgia is making me want to see if hiphophunks is still around. Doesn't look like it.
I also remember some site where you could stream wake up show freestyles and shit like that. Maybe that was just ughh though. |

Napster was also crucial during this time, needless to say. I remember being overjoyed by discovering all these new artists at the time. Was an underground elitist for a bit but, hey, I was young. |

I loved hip hop site. When they quit selling product, that was sort of a, "well, underground rap is fucked" moment for me. Maybe not. I dunno. ha. Either way, I bought more shit when they were shipping out vinyl. |
