i wrote this out for redball but it might be helpful for anyone who plans on driving down and then taking the metro:

the closest metro to the 95 is greenbelt. it has a huge parking lot and it's right off the beltway. at greenbelt just hop on the green line and get off at at either archives or l'enfant plaza - they are on 7th st 2 blocks north and south of the mall, respectively. the only problem with this option is that everyone else is making the same plan. i'm guessing most of the people coming to this rally will be driving in from the northeast and therefore coming down 95 (just a hunch).

a better destination might be new carrollton, about 15 minutes south on 495. they have a large amount of parking and from there you can take the orange line straight to l'enfant.

i think all parking is free at metro on the weekends, though there are sometimes privately owned overflow lots that charge.

I fucking wish I could go to this. I'm thinking about heading up to Boston for one of the support rallies or whatever, but I'm still undecided.

What's the logistics of SFF people meeting up somewhere? Is there a good spot for a handful of people who've never met to find each other in a crowd of 100,000?

JeahJeah. Been doing a tour of duty for AmeriCorps in DE, definitely going to the rally. If you see a big fellah with a big beard and a Ursinus Rugby Jacket, you got a friend in meee (the story of Strange Famous Records). Peace.

We should develop a call or signal of some sort. Ka-kaawwwww.

Haha I'm only like 45% sure I'd be able to recognize and confront you in the chaos, Redball, but I'll be damn sure to try! I'll actually be wearing my SFR jacket, so if anyone sees me, slap me in the back of the head.

Here are some tips for you if you are visiting DC:

DC's population includes refugees from every country, as the families of embassy staffs of third world countries tend to stay in DC whenever a revolution in their homeland means that anyone in their family would be in danger if they went back. Most taxi drivers and many waiters/waitresses (especially in local coffee shops like the Bread and Chocolate chain) are immigrants, frequently from east Africa or Arab countries. As a rule, African immigrants do not like for you to assume they are African Americans and especially do not like for you to guess they are from a neighboring country (e.g. Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia) with whom they may have political or military tensions. It's rare to meet anyone who gets really offended, but you can still be aware of the issue.

Many parts of DC are safe beyond the areas I will list here, but why chance it if you don't know where you are?

If you are on the subway stay on the Red line between Union Station and Shady Grove, Maryland. If you are on the Blue or Orange line do not go past Eastern Market (Capitol Hill) toward the Potomac Avenue stop and beyond; stay in NW DC and points in Virginia. Do not use the Green line or the Yellow line. These rules are even more important at night. There is of course nothing wrong with many other areas; but you don't know where you are, so you should not explore them.

If on foot or in a cab or bus, stay in Bethesda, Arlington (preferably north Arlington), Crystal City, Falls Church, Annandale, or Alexandria, or in DC only in northwest DC west (i.e. larger street numbers) of 14th or 16th streets, or if on Capitol Hill only in SE Capitol Hill (zip 20003) between 1st and 8th Streets, not farther out than 8th (e.g. 9th, 10th etc). (Or stay on the Mall and at the various monuments.) Again there are many other lovely places, from the Catholic University of America to Silver Spring, Maryland. But you don't know where you are so you cannot go, especially at night, unless you take me with you.

Less than 12 hours till it starts! Gah, I'm so excited. I will be out there on my own tomorrow cause my cousin who was supposed to come with me has fallen deathly ill, so if anyone from the forum sees a early 20's guy walking around in non-descript clothing by them-self, feel free to come try to figure out if it's me. I would love to actually put some faces to names from here.

I'm not sure if these even needs to be said but due to an unfortunate turn of events I won't be attending this event. I just got back from Eyedea's wake and now i'm off to B's dad's funeral. Ain't nothing pretty about this year. Nothing at all. I hope that whoever goes to DC for this event has a great time. Hopefully we can have a Strange Famous gathering at some other place at a better time.

jeahhhhh.
