I agree it makes more sense to play Landon instead of Clint off of Jozy. His energy and scoring abilities would play great running off of Jozy, relatively. Whereas I agree that Clint is more of a contemplative creative player who should be left to his own devices in the midfield.

I too think the US can get out of their group--even maybe win the England game. But this is a contentious point at my house, so I try not to bring it up much. Even saying the name of Landon Donovan is an invitation to get yelled at.

I still have flashbacks of not being able to watch an Everton match on TV because of the hatred of Donovan.

Do you live with mexican fans or just general haters?

Whoever it was, it must have killed them that he did so well during his stint in england.

Seriously. I thought the only people that hate Landon Donovan are Mexicans and Beckhams.

Word. Donovan is probably the best American player out there right now, with the exception of Tim Howard.

I'm rooting for the US, as usual, but I don't think they're going very far. As usual.

My secondary pick is with Germany as a heritage kind of thing, but I think that Italy is going to take it all again.

I live with a huge Beckham fan.

i would be more optimistic about italy if they took cassano or miccoli.

but instead lippi is leaving the two best strikers in italy (clearly) at home.

why? because they might disrupt team chemistry.

i don't care, they should still go. gilardino is mediocre, iaquinta is horrible and has barely played this season. i dont even know who else is going, italy has horrible strikers except for those two and maybe pazzini.

totti still hasnt decided yet, but if he goes i'll at least be more enthused.

having said all that, italy always shows up for the world cup, and the only way they ever get eliminated is on penalty kicks, so back to back world cups is not out of the question.

Italy was SO DAMN BORING in the last World Cup that I hope they'll be kicked out early. But that just doesn't seem to happen.

What about Judas Rossi? I know he isn't having the greatest season, but he wouldn't be bad off the bench, no?

And to anyone who thinks Argentina has a chance, did you follow them during qualifying?!?!? Plus, Maradona is their coach! Anything can happen, and they have a ton of talent, but it seems like A LOT would have to fall into place for them.

When is an African team going to make a semi-final? We have to break this European/Latin American dominance of the World Cup.

South Korea did that eight years ago. I don't see any African team doing it this year. I'd like to see Ghana go far, but that probably won't happen.

I think Nigeria and Cote d'Ivoire both have good shots this time, with the seeding. I'm especially looking at the Cote d'Ivoire squad to turn some heads.
