Musicians should release their music anonymously and books shouldn't have authors either.

To be fair, in a book the author doesn't really put their own name in the story, unless it's some metatextual thing. And except for rappers, most people in music don't put their names actually in their songs. He's saying not to through your john hancock sloppily onto the bottom of a piece of visual art because visual art is all about what you see, and unless the signiture is built into the piece, I can see why it might be annoying to some.

Besides, if you're showing your work in a gallery or whatever, don't the captions usually handle the whole who it's by end?

I read a really good rant about photographers who deface their art with watermarks and shit, so when people post it up in their blogs, people know for sure who it's from. But then, who wants to click on a piece of jacked up art--was I think the position of the aggregator who was griping.

If you're an artist, getting your art seen or heard is issue number one. Then if people like it enough, they'll figure out who it's by, even if it's somewhat nebulous.

I don't know if I've ever signed a piece of art that I've made. It feels weird to me. But I also suck at art and could give a fuck.

I don't chuck my name at the end of everything I write. My tumblr blog doesn't really have my name on it anywhere, and I write all kinds of shit in there.

My girlfriend put this in her blog the other day, it reminded me of your Dave Lachapelle Championing:

You should sign your name in giant letters and then do the art really small in the corner. Or if you're really pretentious, on the back and make snooty comments about those who tarnish their signature with their art.

it'll blow peoples minds and wallets. After you become rich I expect a 10% finders fee.

i can honestly picture someone blowing up because of this style

you better get to work

To all you signature dicks - I don't really have to pay attention to anything you guys say because you don't know jack shit about art. For real. I went to college and you guys like some garbage. Pictures of dudes standing next to cars and shit.

Some people like to think about what they do, and some like to be a little bitch and do what they please all day long 24/7. That's that.

JaketheSnake you are becoming one of these turtlefuckers like Shamabala (yo, fuck you shamabala. for no reason) who just likes to plop their sluggish ass down in the middle of everywhere and slow down the discourse. Comb your beard.

Sorry you had to witness that Neuro.

Zagadka mostly enjoys Darren Waterston because it looks like kombucha baby.

I like that guy. I'm a sucker for some nice washes. That's my favorite.

I can't stand signatures in artwork...
With some exceptions like graffiti, or on prints.

If you're going to sign a painting i think you should do it right, on the reverse, like this:

or do a hidden self portrait woven into the layers.

Throwing a signature over your artwork is some haphazard half stepping shit.

I'd like to give my Printmaking Prof. Stephen Fisher a shout here:

Stephen's a printmaking beast. The digital pics don't do the prints/ drawings much justice. I haven't seen many handle detail and subtlety quite like him.

hahaha i was thinking cartoons the whole way too, for real. the technique is nasty ill take nothing away from that craft but alot of that stuff falls short conceptually. however, i do like the anti-establishment tone to it though.

irving norman has some real nice paintings. those paintings you posted are also the freshness raoul.

and im with raoul on the signing art. no need. its silly. i could see a possible 10 pages full of debate over authorship and authenticity developing here if the players are willing. im freaking spent right now, maybe tomorrow ill muster up something but i luvs talkin bout that shis.
