Lots of discussion after watching and I will throw this question out to you..who was the best Ali or Tyson?

There was already a pretty long thread about this film. As for who's best? There is no comparison. I love Iron Mike. As he said himself, his life is a tragedy. And he had five of the most dominant years at the top. He's one of the most feared ever. Just a brutal puncher.

BUT.

He does not compare to Ali. Ali was on top for longer against better opponents. Both lost three years due to government fuckery (Tyson for a rape conviction which wouldn't have held against someone not Mike Tyson, Ali for the war). But Ali was far greater. Ali in his prime vs. Tyson in his prime? I would bet on Tyson. But Tyson's career is like his character in Punch Out: as long as you can make it halfway through the first round, any bullshit fighter could stop him.

Joe Calzaghe is the best.

I love boxing, and miss the Tyson days. Will definitely watch this at some point.

the documentary that's basically just a running interview with him talking about his life was one of the most compelling and insightful documentaries i've ever seen. that's a deep, complex guy right there who hasn't been treated fairly by much of anyone in his life.

Prime Tyson vs. prime Clay goes to Tyson.

Too much power and speed, Tyson was a very small heavyweight with tremendous power.

to much power? arguable, but you ever seen frazier? you ever see the rope-a-dope? ali could take punches...and stay out of range of them. but...too much speed for ali?!?! HAHAHA!!!! ali woulda frustrated tyson into spent-energy desperation and played with him til tyson collapsed and ali stood over him saying 'i must be the greatest!' (in whatever round he called)

and im a huge tyson fan. but ali is the best there ever will be. tyson even said it in that vid 'all heads must bow, all tongues must profess, ali is the greatest'
