Director John Hughes RIP  Reply with quote

Dude did some great movies in the 80's.

NEW YORK - A spokeswoman for John Hughes says the director of 1980s coming-of-age films like “Sixteen Candles” and “The Breakfast Club” has died in Manhattan.

Michelle Bega says the 59-year-old Hughes died of a heart attack during a morning walk. He was in Manhattan to visit family.

He made a teen star of Molly Ringwald with 1984’s “Sixteen Candles” about a girl’s nightmarish birthday on the eve of her sister’s wedding.

RIP

I've probably watched Breakfast Club more than any other movie.
maybe it's time I bust out a Hughes marathon.

Aww fuck noooooooooo!!!

This reminds me of the scene in Dogma where Jay and Silent Bob are trying to find the fictional town in Illinois where most of Hughes' movies take place. The man was everything great about 80s cinema, and pretty much the reason a lot of actors even had a career. I'm looking at you Emilio. And you too, Coma Emilio.

I've always been slightly bothered by his movies. There's a racial element of them that often goes unnoticed.

Can you expand on that? Is it the mostly white casts?

Sixteen Candles, with the Asian guy. And the dance scene in Ferris Bueller... I really didn't like the way black people were utilized.
