Saw this last night. I liked it a lot, but found it kinda sad for an alien movie, somehow. |

I didn't like how they went back and forth from documentary style to straight up scifi action movie, it would have been better had they stuck with one style. Other than that it was good. |

I was surprised by how violent it was. I'm hoping there's a sequel. |

i saw about it so i wanted to check it out. read that no one bought many tickets opening week so far and bad reviews. decided to read the wiki on it. turned out some dumb ass wrote the whole plot of the movie in wiki and didnt label it spoiler alert. so after reading the whole movie summed up, it sounded not so good. in anycase...we went to see The Goods instead which made me laugh my ass off. But now my boyfriend wants to see District 9 next weekend so i guess i have to see it anyways even though i already know the whole plot. i'll never wiki an in the theatre movie again.
saw a great trailer for shutter island or whatever it is called. i forget. martin scorsese and whats his name from titanic. leonardo. |

trust me, i have no choice. my boyfriend is jumping up and down to go next week. he keeps saying " awww, i wanna go to that one, that one with the aliens! "
anyways it wasnt a review on wiki it was the entire synopsis. the reviews were in the paper. i'm sure i'll enjoy it somewhat i just wish i hadn't looked at the wiki. |

I don' think this detracted from the movie at all. In fact, I think they did a good job switching bask and forth between the 2 looks. |

District 9 is so boring for the first forty minutes. The documentary style is lame in my opinion. For only spending 30 million on the film, the special effects were great. I never felt like the Aliens looked awkwardly fake, or hoky.
However, you can pretty much not come for the first hour, then sit down and enjoy a decent quality sci fi action thriller |

No way. The documentary style enhances the entire feel of the movie, making it seem more authentic than a movie about aliens should. I thought this same technique is what made Cloverfield so great. Secondly, it's based off of the director's previous short film documenting life in the slums of Johannesburg. Incidentally, that's also how the lead actor got his job. I guess he's never been in a movie before, and he was incredible in this one. Great movie with awesome special effects. Very compelling. |

I saw it yesterday. Just reaffirmed that the genre isn't for me. Fuck a hype machine. |
