someone mentioned cage writing, yeh its still good, but the beats and the production is just stupid and same through every track...just kills all the fun..meh cant appreciate every form of experimenting with the sound, especially if it goes to hell like on this album...

I didn't read the whole thread but I really liked this album. I have never been cage fan (he had requested I do a radio interview with him back when I was an internet dj, and I dumbly turned it down due to to many restrictions on content) but this album has kind of shoved me into the world of his music.

I tend to like his old stuff more, but I think this album is great. Like Sean said, Cpt Bumout is great, the hook especially. The album is on rotation everyday. My favorite track is Dr. Strong.

Been a Cage fan since 98 with Agent Orange/Radiohead white label. Took a break from him around the Nighthawks album only to come right bak and pump Hell's Winter hard. Upon first listen I think this is kind of shitty. Maybe it'll grow on me but it's not lookign pretty. Beats and hooks are mostly lackluster to put it mildly. I hope El-P is keeping at the heat for another LP from him. "ISWYD" was unbelievable.

I wouldn't compare this to E&A. And vice versa. I think both groups would be uncool with being weighed against one another. There's more of a difference than there are similarities in their approach and execution.

Tada!

damn, i liked hell's winter, but this new album is on some new level of crap.

Who thought it was a good idea to get that hatebreed guy to produce?

Jamey Jasta got his mitts on this?

Nah, the guitarist (edited to take out joke about Jasta's thumbs; uncalled for, even if the band is an abomination).

Was the joke "What has 9 thumbs and sucks?"

If you like Cage and his writing, I'm sure you will like this. If you just liked him over mighty mi, necro, or def jux sounding shit, you night not like this.

For whatever reason, I just like Cage. I think his lyrics are always above par. the mean hates him cuz he acted a fool and said faggot once at a show.

You make spur of the moment, non thought-out music and some people don't like that you are not talking about more important things. You start talking about more important things, and some people just want you to rap about being crazy and dope. Then some people just judge you on what they first experienced you as (a la the mean) and it doesn't matter what you ever do to improve you music or perspective.

I dig this record. There's maybe 3 songs or so I'm not feeling but on a whole it's pretty solid.

I can see people not liking the production and I prefer El-P over Hatebreed as much as the next man, but there's lots of great beats on here IMO... Look At What You Did, Depart From Me, Nothing Left To Say, I Found My Mind In Connecticut etc. There's only a couple songs where the guitar feels out of place to me.

Cage is one of the best writers out there. And this album is dope. I'm stoked to see him at the Belly Up in a couple weeks.

Its in the production though. That indie rock sound is clear in both of them. Not saying its bad thing. Its just something thats a bit noticeable.

Haha. This song is fantastic. I've never really been into Cage, but this one is great.

I couldn't get into "Fat Kids Need An Anthem", "Kick Rocks" or "Captain Bumout". I thought they didn't really mesh well with the rest of the album. I made my own mix and included the other 4 songs from the INKY EP. It plays way better that way to me. I also really enjoy the artwork for this.

alot of people are hating on this bigtime

alot of those haters seem come off as very close minded by their reasons

oh well for each their own

this album is pretty incredible

"eating its way out of me" is ridiculously dope, thats my jam right now

this album makes you feel like youre warping through some kind of portal taking the listener back and forth through depression and ectasy

theres some very nice "rap" moments on this record

theres some very "musical" moments on the record

a GREAT cage album

I think the video is great. Shia is suppose to be doing a film portraying as Cage. Should be interesting.

Never a big Cage fan but this is pretty good. I came to the table with no expectations and I love it. Beats are good, lyrics are decent. Some of it (meaning his vocals) remind me of Dead Milkmen or early Suicidal.
