A 6yr old at the elementary school closest to my house died unexpectedly after going home with nausea and a fever on Tuesday. The community is freaking out about swine flu now. They're saying right now there are no indications that it was swine flu.

LAS CRUCES — A 6-year-old student in Las Cruces died Tuesday afternoon after being sent home from school sick that day with nausea and a fever, according to the Doña Ana Sheriff's Office.

By Friday, preliminary autopsy results should determine whether Columbia Elementary School first-grader Cody Scarborough had contracted swine flu, said Sgt. Joe Reynaud, who said the death had originally seemed to be caused by a heart attack.

Biden suggests we don't take any commercial flights or ride subway cars.

The White House puts their palm to their face and shits their pants. Someone needs to control that guy.

"Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday that he would not recommend taking any commercial flight or riding in a subway car “at this point” because swine flu virus can spread “in confined places.” A little more than one hour later, Biden rushed out a statement backing off."

In all honesty, if people didn't take any commercial flights (or come in contact with any other human) it would effectively stop the spread of the virus on a global scale.

There's that whole "economy" thing to worry about though. Anyone check stocks for gas masks recently?

there are a lot of pigs in egypt because the country is 10% christian. i imagine the government, faced with a serious threat and an angry population, figured the pointless act of killing all the pigs would at least make the muslim majority pleased.

The comments on the article are far more valuable than the article itself. He doesn't really establish any significant connection between the swine-flu and American factory-farming practices. That's not to say I don't understand how the two could relate, only that I don't see the connection here.

They owe a lot to World War Z, but that's pretty awesome either way.
