Interracial kiss sparks complaints in Missouri  Reply with quote

Click on that cover to read about the surprising (I think?) responses that image garnered on the paper's website. Then pinch yourself and ask someone what year this is if you find yourself in doubt.

I mean, I know it's easy for nuts and misfits to come out of the woodwork on the internet and seem like a bigger part of the world than they really are, but sometimes I wonder if we don't just let ourselves live in our bubbles and pretend that people from other planets like these aren't out there, being part of the world and affecting things every day.

It's really interesting to note the language used - they're offended. They don't like things being "shoved down their throats." They think it's only reasonable, they look for analogies that people who don't share their unfortunate condition of racial panic might be more empathetic to. They only want a little consideration, you know?

Is that so much to ask?

(hint: yes, it is.)

Edit: I guess "Fear of a Black Planet" was a little oblique. Twenty years later, though, some people still skurred.

this is upsetting.

part of me dies anytime I read something like this comment:

Quote:

"It should be two men kissing because those are the morals that the media wants the public to adopt and if you’re offended, the liberals tell you it’s because only their morals matter and what you want doesn’t matter because they’re in control and you’re a mentally unstable hater."

*brain explodes*

how do these fearful people get the idea that they are entitled to never be scared?

Even the idea that their preference is as individual and neutral as, say, not really liking the colour red very much... but would anyone ever express dismay that the colour red was being shoved down their throats by wanton display in the media? Seems unlikely.

That's Missouri for ya.

I really wish more people understood the area that Sarah and I come from.

I go to Seattle, or Portland, or Minneapolis, or Rhode Island, or (especially) Canada. And am kinda baffled by the way people perceive our society.

Like. Motherfuckers really don't grasp how far behind the rest of the country is.

In a joking redneck voice I will say something like, "Ewww! Look at them faggots holdin' hands right there man!" And people get offended.

I'm like, "No. I'm joking. I grew up in a place where trying to have compassionate morals will turn you into a psychopath with broken emotions and internal issues."

I was driving through Koshkonong, MO the other day and I saw a billboard that said "Alan Keyes For President."

It's funny because it's true :)
Missouri is a wild and crazy place.
So is Oklahoma and Arkansas.

The KKK is very very big in Missouri.

i'd bet money that most of those people bitching about a public interracial kiss like to frequent interracial porn sites when no one's looking.

Yeah, that's kind of the biggest problem with interracial porn such as it is - this is exactly what it caters to.

Once the economy goes into a recession everybody is up in arms, but nobody pays attention to the recession of common sense and basic human decency. If an interracial kiss is a concern for you than your life is vapid.

On a related note: do people in Missouri actually pronounce it Missour-uh?

Like I said, 'human decency' by people's definition in the Bible Belt/Jesus area, is completely different than your definition.

Depends on who you talk to. Some say Missour-uh, some say Missour-ee.
