That's the weak hipster's response to this! A truly free man realizes that this is going to be better than 99% of the bullshit. I am applying bells onto my body to wait with them for.

I'm so over people acting like Jackie Brown was a cinematic misstep. That movie was raw raw raw.

honestly, it's just that I enjoy Tarentino's writing, his directing is great, but his movies are what they are because of the writing, not because of the writer of Get Shorty or whoever it was that wrote the book.

He still wrote the screenplay. Jackie Brown is definitely my favorite Quentin joint and contains my favorite Samuel L role. And DeNiro is so un-Deniro in this movie. and fucking Keaton. I gotta watch Jackie Brown again.

I don't hate him.
He is a mess of a writer. It is shitty, lazy writing. His direction is nothing special, either. He is also an annoying human being. People like his movies because of their attitude. I love Pulp Fiction, but even that has its "ugh" moments for me. Never liked Jackie Brown, never thought Kill Bill was anything special. I thought I liked Resevior Dogs until I bought it and watched it again last month. It is good, but really has massive holes in it as a film. This new movie will be entertaining as hell, and I think I will like it. I don't hate Tarantino, but the dick-riding has got to stop. You gotta watch his movies with an objective eye, and not the "ohhh, that is soooo Tarantino".

With that said, Natural Born Killers is a phenomenal script.

He's not a mess of a writer.

And anyone who thinks Jackie Brown was a cinematic misstep is crazy. That movie is really really good. One of his best.

AND the movie is generally seen as that by most critics. It's aged really well in terms of how it is regarded. I feel like I'm in a time warp now, reading someone hate on it. I thought we were over that.

Ugh. Tarantino hate is so dumb.

I also hate when people consider movies that aren't tarantino movies as part of his canon. Natural Born Killers is an Oliver Stone picture. True Romance is a Tony Scott flick. I know you can find Tarantino stuff in there if you're looking for it, but I feel that's completely revisionist, and that when discussing his canon as a filmmaker, we should stick to movies that he directed.

I was in no way saying Natural Born Killers was a Tarantino film. It is barely even the same script, but it IS the same story and I really enjoyed the original script he wrote. I was just trying to give him props where I thought they were due.

See, this is the problem. If I say I dislike Tarantino (especially in film school) I get this "people who hate on him are stupid. HE IS SO AWESOME!" If you think he's a great director, that is your business. But if you can't admit that he is excessively overrated, you are clearly biased.

My problem is that I can feel Tarantino breathing down my neck in every single film he directs. I can see him writing those "stylized" lines and thinking "man, this is pretty bad ass. who cares if everyone talks the same". I feel like most people chalk up his flaws to "oh well, thats our Quentin!"

His dialogue tries too hard to be quirky and is completely irrelevant to the story 60% of the time.

Tarantino is one of the best movie makers of all time.

Go fuck yourself if you have a coffee shop couch, film-school opinion that differs. His shit is entertaining as hell, and he changed the game entirely with his art.

He isn't afraid to be influenced. He isn't afraid to be a huge fan of other people's movies.

He's also one of the original gangsters of modern independent movies.

What the hell man. "A mess of a writer." Right.

Tarantino hate is like Eminem hate.

--By the way. I had no idea you were in film school when I wrote the above text. However, saying Tarantino is "overrated", or is a mess of a writer is a very film-school thing to say.

Film-school theory, and film-school in general, is worthless in terms of being a good artist, or film-maker.
