I'm excited for the backlash against post modernism, personally. Papers will be presented in crayon and construction paper.

You missed it. Leftist scientists like Alan Sokal went to bat for the Enlightenment, while crippling one of the most important radical academic journals of its era. They were paid in anti-intellectual celebrity and in high-fives from their fellow technocrats.

I think the strange asynchronous relationship of commentary between science and arts is a necessity ie I don't think it's the place of the physical sciences to explore or criticize the arts, but I think artistic and humanistic fields are a necessary ethical safeguard in science, and deserve more attention/funding than they currently receive, especially in scientific commentary.
I don't fully know where I'm going with this, but basically it was bad form on Sokal's part to attempt to prove the dominance of one intellectual avenue over another.
At the same time, I can understand what motivated him to do this; the sometimes arbitrary and capricious attitudes that have at least stereotypically characterized postmodern theory are counter to scientific impartiality (hah), and you combine that with a snide remark by a lit expert at a faculty mixer and you get a fake paper to prove how dumb the entire field is.

This is the time when I challenge you to a fist fight. And or an academic duel.

Wow me. What have you learned lately from Emily Dickinson?

I used to know exactly what post-modernism was.

Annoyingly, I have forgotten.

Windom, I could really use Virilio's 'City of Panic' or 'Negative Horizon' if either is available.

ok i remembered

if modernism is holding a mirror up to the distortions of subjective reality, then post-modernism is holding a mirror up to the distortions of literature itself

(or maybe art itself, or writing/recording itself)
