Of all the talk recently of top movies for the year I am finally pleased to say that this movie was hands down the best movie I've seen in the past few years. There were some parts that weren't focused on as much as in the book but the way this movie flowed was perfect. And Daniel Day-Lewis? Fucking chalk him up for Best Actor this year! I suggest, even to those that don't do movies, that people see this film. Simply amazing. |

I just caught this. Yeah, generally, I'll need to see a flick at least a couple of times before I decide to place it on my "Greatest of All Time" list, but right after it ended, I knew it would find a spot. High praise, but it's true for me. The final 10 min are very bold and there's a rapid shift in tone near the end that might not work for some, but I thought it was absolutely flawless. Daniel's work transcends acting. He's really that good. Hell, I'd say that Dano even deserves an Oscar nom, even though it was clearly Daniel's show. |

Yeah, sorry for being selfish. I didn't even think about it not being released yet, especially while I was watching it. And if it hasn't come out in your area I suggest that you read the book it is based on, "Oil!" by Upton Sinclair. Then see the movie. |

I want to see this for sure. PT Anderson is incredible. He has a long, healthy career ahead of him. |

He sounds like Jack Palance in this movie. |

I have never heard of this movie, or book, but Daniel Day-Lewis' inclusion makes me want to. It's only a matter of time before it comes out here. |

That's all it takes to make it your favorite trailer ever. |

i just saw this trailer yesterday for the first time when i went to see "sweeney todd" (im a little behind, i realize) and it looks totally awesome.
also saw the "cloverfield" preview which looks nuts, and another one about a presidential assassination? i forget what it was called. it probably wont be as good as "death of a president" though. |

Haven't seen this, but I will check it.
Day-Lewis puts a lot into his roles, which is probably why he doesn't appear in movies very often (apart from the fact that he doesn't need to). He spent around a year being trained as a boxer by Barry McGuigan before the (mediocre) movie "The Boxer," and by the time the movie was made McGuigan said he thought Day-Lewis could compete with the best in Britain at his weight.
So the moral of the story is, don't mess with the guy if he ever spills your drink in a club. He's no slouch. |

had to drive to Denver for what was apparently the only theater in colorado showing this movie before the full release, but it was well worth it.
I hate when acting performances get way overblown, but Daniel Day Lewis is really great in this movie. I felt like in a very broad sense, it had a similar feel to No Country for Old Men, in that it took place in desolate landscape, and just kind of told a story, without a whole lot of focus on building to some feel good climax.
I haven't seen enough movies the past few years to call it a top 5 or something, but I was really impressed. Paul Thomas Andersen did a great job telling this story, even if sometimes he takes a long route to telling the story. |
