tough group though.. i was torn between Ali, El-P and Sage.. but message board loyalty wins.

(not to mention, I actually prefer it as an album)

that and Sage's record TRUMPS Ali's EASILY. i have not hear el-p's... but ill take sage over El-P anyday.

Agreed on both points full-heartedly. I kind of feel like this album is getting slept on just a little bit. Even on this board.

i haven't been disappointed by an album like Ali's in a loooong time. i had HIGH hopes for that record.

oh well, sage killz.

Wow, that blows my mind. Not a weak second on there. Oh well. Taste I guess. Really though? Wow.

Voted. Wish Buck was on some of these.

SFR put out two of my favorite albums this year.

Thanks Francis.

bam! you lost me.
Ali? Lackluster?
Those things are exact opposites in my mind. That might be the absolute last word I would choose to describe him.
The man has a presence on the mic like none other today.

I remember those being the two reasons why didn't like the album as much in the original Ali thread. You should have heard him over the 10-piece reggae band. Ant's samples had real people to sing them. The whole thing was great.

I thought Ali's record, Sage's and EL-P's were all fantastic. Some of y'all are trippin'.

Voted.

compared to shadows on the sun, ali just doesn't have that rawness, that something unexplained... i know it's just me, & i know i can be "wrong", but i really can't play that record at all, it's just that boring to me.

that said, i know it's a good album by hip hop standards, but the feel of the album as a whole just didn't resonate with me enough to want to listen to it again. i listened to the album at least 3 times through & eh. oh well.

just because The Undisputed Truth doesn't match the near-unbroken, dizzying heights of Shadows On The Sun doesn't make it a bad record. It just puts it back down here on the ground with records in general - most records aren't close to as good as Shadows On The Sun.

I just think having to buy three 12"s to get three different b-sides is wack. Put fuckin' different a-sides on them then - at least do two remixes! The album is a hell of a thing, though, I'm really suprised cats can front.

Man, remember how amazing 2003 was for rap? I'm officially nostalgic for four years ago. Wow.

That "voting booth" was annoying.
Pick 5 but you could only write in one, or something.
I don't know if I voted or not, my cat was interfering and I lost my cool.
I'll go back after I smoke a bowl to chill out some and apologize to my cat for punching him in the asshole.

i voted sage in...but i gotta admit i was stopped dead in my tracks when i saw saul's record up for a choice! i am loyal to who i consider the g.o.a.t., though...sage has too many tools and uses them all so well, and uses them better from record to record. saul has many tools, also, and uses them exceedingly well, and his albums are just getting sick. his inventiveness and grit may be unparalleled and i wish he had more of a following (more people i talk to seem to have heard of sage than saul). niggy tardust is on loop here, but im sticking with my gunz, yo cause i place it higher than niggy tardust overall.

course, im talking mc tools, i dont even really hear beats and production when i listen to hip hop.
