The Nucc remix has some fat drums, I like them a lot - and the stabs remind me of the original in some ways... Brandon Logic's remix is musically really interesting and sounds like it was made by someone who knows what they're doing from a composition perspective. Nozebleed's one makes me smile, I really like that melody and the drums are nice and crashy.
Shit, it's quite difficult. And that's with 4. Not 133...
I'm going for Nozebleed. But Brandon Logic is an extremely close second for me!
Cheers for making the acapella available, as always - it must be hard letting one go like this but it must also be exciting to hear what people make from it. It was good to have a go.
Good luck y'all... |

first i'd like to say thanks to sage for doing this and for taking the time to listen to so many remixes, even if mine didn't make the cut. 133? that's insane. you must be so sick of this song.
now, i think is is a good group of four to choose from, but if i was going to push for one more to be included it would be emancipator's. it was snuck in just under the wire, and didn't get a chance to get any feedback. but that remix made me love the song again. so good.
after listening to each of these a few times, i think nozebleed's is the best. it's the only one (besides emancipator's) that gets more and more interesting as the song progresses, and makes me want to listen to it again right away. the other three are really cool but by the end of the song i'm ready to turn them off. |

Emancipator's is definitely worth checking, however it doesn't keep my attention through the whole song. It seems really really safe. It could use an interesting twist here and there, but it's basically the same sound through the whole track and it's very low key. It is definitely a quality remix. |

My vote goes to The Nucc for best remix. I like Nozebleed's beat the best but for me it didnt fit with the lyrics.
Thank you for releasing the accapella. It motivated me to produce my first beat. Although I only had one night to do it, it was fun! |

Wasnt the reason why this song was picked to remix was because Reanimator wanted to remix it?
If so, where its at? |

My vote is going to Nozebleed.
The Nucc's remix just feels like a reworking of the original, Nozebleed actually manages to take the song in a new direction and it sounds, to me at least, novel. |

This is the second time this has been brought up, and the answer is no. When I posted about the remix I mentioned off handedly that I believe even Reanimator was interested in remixing the song. Turns out that didn't happen. He's been very busy and currently his efforts have been dedicated to the Prolyphic & Reanimator album. After that, I hope his efforts go toward my next album. So there's not much room for remix work on his end, but fear not...he's churning out future flavor's in that lab of his. |

My favorite of all the remixes was Emancipator's.
My favorite of these finalists is The Nucc. I feel like the beat does the best job of accompanying Sage's lyrics and his tone without getting in the way. Most of the other remixes were hard for me to listen to, and made the song feel like...well...not a Sage Francis song. No disrespect to any of the other producers of course; congratulations to everyone whose remix was posted. |

I would think The Nucc's is the best if it didn't get "Rap Superstar" running through my head when I listen to it.
Brandon Logic's is very ill, but I think Nozebleeds is the most involved and original. |

thanks for the feedback sage. i'm grateful that mine made the first cut and is even being discussed in this thread.
in some ways that's what i was going for. i wanted the listener to pay more attention to the lyrics than to major changeups in the beat. i placed more emphasis on fitting the mood of the beat to the vocals than emptying out my whole bag of tricks on the production, which is something i've been criticized in the past for. i wanted to create a truly solid beat over which the vocals could plow forward atop as the main event. yes, the changeups are subtle (is that what you meant by low key?) but i think that increases re-listenability. the chord progression i used was 8 bars so i felt that helped reduce the sense of repetition as well. also, consider the audience: you, the author of the song, who has just listened to it hundreds of times is going to be paying exaggerated attention to the changeups in the beat because hearing the vocals is yesterday's news. i think when you present my remix to any other listener who has not heard of sage francis, or to someone who's heard hoofprints maybe a few times, it works incredibly well.
remixes contests have to be one of the trickiest things in the world. it's one thing to come up with something that sounds dope. the next hurdle is having it sound dope to a specific person. then it needs to be the dopest of the dope to that person. i say let the aggregate decide. |
