birth control and cancer  Reply with quote

Our older generation of mothers seem to be very against birth control because of how unnatural it is, and it seems like the main reason they're against it is because of the fears of cancer associated with it..

I'm just curious as to what people here think, are these fears unwarranted, or are all these birth control, hormone companies and researchers fucking us like every other big coorporation?

I ask cause this and cancer might in the next few weeks become a very relevant issue in my family, although I truly hope it doesn't.

I did a search on google and here are the results

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=birth+control+pill+breast+cancer

Seems like every other links says its linked to cancer, its not linked to cancer. So who the fuck really knows.

Yeah, I read somewhere that anti-biotics taken by woman have a higher risk in getting breast cancer.

Excessive use can be unsafe. My girlfriend took it for 3 months, her physician told her to take it in cycles. Its definitely not soemthing to constantly depend on.

Well, here is some information about cancer that came in an orthotricyclen pack:

"Serious side effects of the pill occur very infrequently, especially if you are in good health and are young. However, you should know that the following medical conditions have been associated with or made worse by the pill..."

"In rare cases, oral contraveptives can cause benign but dangerous liver tumors. These benign liver tumors can rupture and cause fatal internal bleeding. In addition, some studies report on increased risk of developing liver cancer. . ."

"Various studies give conflicting reports on the relationship between breast cancer and oral contraceptive use. Oral contraceptive use may slightly increase your chance of having breast cancer diagnosed, particularly after using hormonal contraceptives at a younger age. After you stop using hormonal contraceptives, the chances of having breast cancer diagnosed begin to go back down. . ."

"Some studies have found an increase in the incidence of cancer of the cervix in women who use oral contraceptives. However, this finding may be relatied to factors other than the use of oral contraceptives. There is insufficient evidence to rule out the possibility that the pill may cause such cancers. . ."

however, there is some positive information included as well.

"Taking the combination pill provides some important non-contraceptive benifits. These include less painful menstruation, less menstrual blood loss and anemia, fewer pelvic infections, and fewer cancers of the ovary and the lining of the uterus.

I work in an OB/GYN office and have access to the morning after pill. That's a good thing.

It's nice to hear a man acknowledge this. You know what they say...Viagra is covered by many health insurance policies whereas the birth control pill is not... Plus, they've probably had the technology to make a male version of the pill for ages, and haven't, just because.

I am 24 and I am PERSONALLY against birth control. For the following reasons, most of which have been stated above:

The #1 concern I have w/ it is that it fucks w/ a womans normal menstral cycle and I am not down w/ that. I am very happy w/ the way that my body functions currently -- its natural.

Why should I have to take a pill so I don't get pregnant, but sexpartner X doesn't.

It is a chemical - and there are many other ways of preventing more babies.

The cancer thing? I feel that the high cancer rate is very related to the American diet and lifestyle as a result of that diet. (When diet includes any of the prepackaged / GMO foods that you find in your Safeway or whathave you)

peace

duh, being a woman is a disease. Seriously, what's wrong with all you fucks. Fucking pussy having cunts.

I swear this is the first thing taught in med school. Not that I've ever even been inside a med school before, but the end results scream this. Honestly, how often are women told to go to the doctor just because. There are check-ups for everything and nothing. Menstruation is wrong and evil. Until you're off the pill and find that you can no longer menstruate. Early menopause save us all. There are plenty of perfectly safe ways to not have babies. I'm firmly against the pill. And firmly for midwifes.
