Nigger by Randall Kennedy

Very good analysis of the history of the word by a Harvard professor

Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word.

A relatively short and lame book, but I'm sure it will do the trick.

"lame" is an understatement Reggie.

This guy came and spoke at my college and seemed to know absolutely nothing about the book he had written. He was a terribly boring speaker. He had nothing to say at all. What the entire speech amounted to was "the n-word means different things in different contexts." Wow, how deconstructionist of him. It was pretty stupid.

My black history teacher talked with him in person as well...I talked to my teacher about it later; we independently both came to the conclusion that he had one of his grad students write it for him and the title was a marketing concept before it was a book.

And man is it dull to read.

It's really gotten out of hand though...I find myself quoting the show ALL the time, even phrases and lines that aren't so noted from it...I can't stop it, it's a disease...

he had charlie murphy (eddie's brother and a regular on the show) on last night and the whole show was him and rick james beating the shit out of each other...

chappelle's show is sorely needed in america today...fuck safe, bland, appealing to eveyone comedy...i really don't see how anyone could be or should be offended by this, but i guess if you look at the outrage a tit on tv caused, that's where the majority of people are at today
