give me a god damn fucking break.

in this independent scene, who the are the top dogs that have been consistently making waves on their own, attracting audiences outside of hiphop?

anticon, rhymesayers, def jux

All of those camps were approached in one way or another.

Slug and I were the ones who were most open to it.

I don't give a fuck what you think about looks, Slug is not white. But our color had shit to do with why they were interested in our music.

They have been checking out rappers of all races and nationalities. And beyond rap, they have a very diverse mix of people on their roster. The ONLY thing they fall short on is female artists. But you're not seeing that...white boy.

While I was given a tour of their offices in California (maybe more than half of the workers were female and of different ethnicities) I had a chance to just sit down and mix in with people. I checked my email from one of their computers. From another cubicle I heard people talking about the rappers on the label.

One lady was saying, "We need to be signing black rappers. Not white boys."

The person she was talking to responded with, "Eh...yeah...did you hear Makeshift Patriot?"

I am proud of the heads at Epitaph for basing their decision on who they are signing SOLEY ON CONTENT. As far as the rap world, anyway.

Every time I talk to the president of Epitaph he asks me what I think of certain rappers. They are usually politically minded artists, and if they GET to sign the artists they are interested in, Epitaph will have the most significant hiphop roster since early Def Jam.

political. socially conscious. aggressive. dope.

your post sickened me.

Does Slug have a direct deal with Epitapth? I thought Rhyme Sayers had a distrobution deal.

As for a white rapper deal, ironically enough, most of the people I play you for think you're black anyway because you're rapping. I do, however, think your peers on that label are not good bands, minus a few acts. I really liked The Dillinger Escape Plan ep they put out, but Epitapth was a label that grew off of bands like Bad Religion and Nofx. I guess my main point/question is why sign to Epitapth? I'd have gone with Dischord or something like that.
