So he thought himself a david throwing rocks against goliath as he read poems aloud in a dress? I think someone is taking life too seriously.... or maybe not seriously at all. I can't really tell. Maybe that's the good part.

No, that's not what he said.

But if you read the piece, then you would know it went beyond that.

Sneeb...how about you start becoming as smart as you act?

seeing and meeting Ms Spelt at Nats in Minn was one of my first exposures to self determined gender idendity...a concept i've gone on to educate myself about....Check "Stone butch blues" by Leslie Fineberg(sp?)....i too read this post on the listserve and have since tried to keep my stones in check until i see a clear shot at Goliath's head...back in my ignorant days, i would never have thought i could learn a lesson from a logger raised, canadian cross dresseing poet, but the world is a wonderful place...education is everywhere

Its not that i couldnt really understand it i just didnt identify with it.

I didn't connect with it in a sense that I didn't agree with him in some parts...and unlike some other people it didn't "break my heart" or get to me in any special way

To put it in his words, I guess he didn't seduce me

I do see why sage posted it, though

The rocks/goliath part I'm totally with

my arm's been getting tired...

the problem is, while yes ive only been to around 10 poetry readings/slams/spoken word performances in my life, its a rare occasion that a poet can 'seduce' me like he describes. theres just too much cake and not enough iceing.

people who hold a social issue as representing themselves often come off wrong (ie - gay people making sure you know unequivicolly that they are queens)

but its nice to see someone approach it right. this guy sounds cool as shit

anyone who cant feel it in themselves to cry or get emotional at a poem or a play or whatever is missing the most important aspect of art. I cried during Laramy porject, whe his father allowed the killer to live.

regardless of your belief system or your social status, I think charity is the most important part of humanity. "Charity" meaning to share in your brother's (sister's) suffering, to help them in any way you can. humanity meaning to be human. I think we have forgotten charity a long time ago, and we all need to find it.

be it for Mathew Shepard, Johnny Cash, the victims of 9/11, the child that picks up a cluster bomb in Iraq . . . put all the bullshit aside and be fucking human.

so yeah, thanks for the thread sage. it was nice to say this kinda shit, even if no one stops to read it.
