Haha fair enough. I was explaining how I can feel like the outrage is justified AND believe that he isn't a cold-blooded killer, as per your question.

What serious person is calling him "cold blooded"? Seems like a straw man to me.

Check out this chart and tell me that the "stand your ground" laws don't actually = "open season on black people."

And so it goes...

"Michael Dunn, 45, shot and killed teen Jordan Davis in Jacksonville on Friday, cops said. His lawyer said he acted in self-defense"

i haven't followed this case in much detail, other than to quickly peruse the wiki on it and watch a few news clips. what's pretty clear to me is that

- stand your ground is totally fucked

- it's some bullshit that zimmerman wasn't charged right away

i'd also bet money that zimmerman was in no reasonable fear for his life and didn't need to fire his weapon. what i haven't heard yet - in any of the discussion on fb or in the news - is what the legal standard is for a verdict of manslaughter. i get the outrage about trayvon's death and florida law, but should we be outraged by the verdict in and of itself? did the jury make the wrong call?

Yes. George Zimmerman should be in prison with all those blacks that always get away.

Definitely a pretty disturbing outcome.

Seems like it took forever for this trial to get going, and that the age of the 24 hour news cycle is negatively impacting/influencing those participating in an already shoddy justice system. My two cents.

thing is, they have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that zimmerman wasn't acting in self defence. from what i've seen, that didn't happen.

Quote:

In trying to assess the killing of Trayvon Martin by George Zimmerman, two seemingly conflicting truths emerge for me. The first is that based on the case presented by the state, and based on Florida law, George Zimmerman should not have been convicted of second degree murder or manslaughter. The second is that the killing of Trayvon Martin is a profound injustice.

I believe that is only the case because Trayvon was black. If anything the stand your ground law applies to Trayvon. He was profiled, stalked, and harassed. Zimmerman admitted this. That is where everything starts. I don't give a shit if Trayvon was beating him senseless. With a sidewalk. Zimmerman chose to engage Trayvon in spite of all reason. Unless Trayvon pulled out a gun and threatened Zimmerman's life, Zimmerman loses all rights to "stand your ground". That was trayvon's ground.

And besides, laws are ignored all the time. If Trayvon looked like me Zimmerman would be behind bars and unanimously vilified.

I'm curious, what is the general consensus here? He should've gotten manslaughter?

I'm amazed how many people I see on FB who apparently don't know anything about the case. I couldn't imagine him getting acquitted, but I also couldn't imagine him getting murder.

I don't know how anyone who paid attention to the case actually still thinks Zimmerman is a cold blooded racist killer, but that seems to be the general sentiment. Unfortunately, I think it undercuts the totally justified outrage about the verdict.

Btw, Robert Zimmerman is a hero among GZ supporters. George lucked the fuck out with that mouthpiece.

I don't know if he's cold blooded. But that's irrelevant. He is a racist killer. Dems the facts. Someone is dead and it's ALL George Zimmerman's fault. A person is dead only because he was black. That's not justice.

The Zimmerman truthers are ignoring a lot of truth.

Can you please elaborate on these facts of yours?
