(free) mobile alternatives to pandora radio?  Reply with quote

not so big on downloading music these days and dont have many mp3s on my computer any suggestions are welcomed

i just started listening to pandor at work for 8-10 hours a day and just got this email

You are approaching your free listening limit
We wanted to let you know that you are approaching your monthly free listening limit on your mobile device. Pandora gives you 40 hours of free mobile listening per month.
Why is free mobile listening limited?
We have three options for you to continue listening once you've reached the free listening limit:
1. Subscribe to Pandora One for $3.99 per month for unlimited listening, no ads, fewer interruptions and more.
2. Pay $.99 to continue listening for the rest of this month (you'll still have advertising). This is a one-time fee; we won't charge your account again.
3. Listen on your computer, which is always unlimited.
Your free hours reset on the first of every month.
Thanks for listening!
____

needless to say im not giving them any of my money

.99 cents for unlimited music? what an outrage...

I love pandora, and would pay the .99 if I had to, but I mostly listen on my computer..

Subsonic.org. Free open source.

I setup a free cloud w my own music collection. Streams from your own computer as the server. No uploading to another server. Runs in web app ( listen at work on pc ). Streams great in onetimefee $4.99 app on iphone/ipad.

Bam. Load it up w free shit from Bandcamp.

Or just spend the dollar.

heres the break down of what i found:

last.fm: 2 day free trial for mobile listening didnt try

iheartradio: you can make your own custom radio stations(same way as pandora) but it was making my phone die half way through the day and seemed to play the same songs a lot

spotify: same as i heart radio battery drain and a lot of repeat plays

grooveshark: didnt try yet

final verdict: pandora is the best at what it does and my phone will usually last for about 9 hours of straight listening time i ended up going and buying a $50 pre paid visa to pay the $3.99 a month for pandora one and i am more than happy with it

yea there isn't anything that does it as good as pandora. I went through this last month and ended up buying it. I don't know how I reached my 50 free hours but whatever. It looks like you found a way to buy it, which is probably the way to go haha

This thing is like... 3 months of Pandora upfront but I hear the long-term ROI is pretty good.
