laugh at poor old wrongly convicted, wrongly ridiculed Ted Stevens all you like, but it turns out the old coot was correct all along!

Well, just keep off the net between 8am-4am Mon-Sun (that's Oz time, so you have to add a day, and then minus 20 years.) I don't need your Afroman downloads blocking my Tom Selleck pics from coming through the tubes, Gandalf Birdman, OK?!

You two are comparing apples to oranges I believe. Changing the php code of the forum isn't the same as adding a custom tag in phpbb3.

^ :)

i stand by my 'bbcodes can do little-to-no harm' but yes, definitely, messing with the actual codebase is a no-go for the uninitiated.

so, we're both right. go us!

I used to write silly little apps using visual studio. I could write one where you paste in the URL and it generate code for you.

Would anyone care if I spent the time to get on that and posted it here?
It'd be a basic .exe file, nothing to install.

I was thinking if you could create a html button (like the "Quote" "Img" "URL", etc.) that when you clicked it, it would generate the first half of the code I posted. Then you paste the *youtube url stuff after the backslash, followed by clicking the button again, which would then paste the other half of the code I posted. It would be fast and even less time than the old way of deleting all the crap before and after the "<embed". You could just do a cut and paste thing with the coding that created the previous html "buttons" and change all the parts you want modified.

*By the way...the youtube url would be the simplified one that you get when you click the "Share" button in youtube, not the one that you get when you were referenced from another video, which gives you the "watch" part of the code. Sage, such as the youtube url you posted.

that's pretty much what you can set a bbcode up to do. it's built into the newer versions of this board and would (potentially) work fairly seemlessly
