Best: Slick Rick, Andre 3000, Q-Tip, Sadat X, Biggie, ODB, Busta, Nas. Snoop from back in the day was great.

Worst: Jay-Z, Kreayshawn, Shyne, Watsky, Fabolous, Mac Miller, Yelawolf. Also, the "white boy rapping in the closet so him mom can't hear" and the "poetry slam cadence" both rank high in my not want to hear list.

The market is saturated so heavy with people that sound like other people, so I really appreciate emcees that sound like their own character. No one sounds like Slick Rick and I could hear him reciting Dr. Seuss and it would sound like butter to me. I also like when an emcee sounds confident and doesnt have to yell at me to get a point across. Jay-z is confident, but doesn't sound confident because of his weak, crackly voice. Yep.

Sleep, Gift of Gab, and Myka 9 (or however he's spelling it these days) all have voices incredibly well-suited for rap. Myka 9 is probably the best because of his diverse range. Still, I could listen to these guys all day long. And Bun B. Goddamn, what a smooth tone. And Tash.

I'm going to give honorable mentions to Baracuda, both Eligh and The Grouch, P.O.S., and yes, Dose One. I know Dose has a weird voice that isn't conventional, but that's what makes it so great for me. His delivery is top notch though, and he makes even the oddest lyrics sound compelling.

Oh right, bad voices... I can't stand Danny Brown. Why that man is allowed to touch a microphone I'll never know. I think both Young Jeezy and Lil Wayne suck ass too. I don't get the appeal.

In terms of voices that shouldn't work in rap but somehow do (and that I personally enjoy): AWOL One, Aesop Rock, Busdriver, Lateef, ODB, Nacho Picasso. That's all I can think of for now.

I'll second Chali 2na (definitely the best of Jurassic 5) and Method Man.

Can't stand Chali 2na's voice. It's like a bad sound effect.
I like older Danny Brown joints, when he didn't yet do that voice he does all the time now. He sounded totally different then. I still like him but I'm sick of that voice now.

I like what AdamBomb said. I'd remove Busta and add Ghostface, though. I'd also add MCA, cause he had a voice like no other.

Chuck D.
Tricky.
Doom.
Ghostface.

From the Twin Cities, I'm partial to Brandon from Big Quarters--and of course Brother Ali has developed one of the most distinctive, iconic voices in rap. I really like Dessa's rap voice as well, at least with her more recent stuff.

I'm not sure if Talib Kweli's voice is good or bad, but something about the way he sounded on the Reflection Eternal record made me lean forward and pay attention when he raps.

i think TI has a great voice. Agree with a lot of the stuff being said, but Danny Brown has a great voice for rap.

I thought he sounded super generic before he started the whole kat williams thing. either way I can't listen for long periods of time.
I enjoy the way Prof uses his voice, Chali, Astronautalis, Buck 65.
Homeboy Sandman. Swamburger. Cee-lo.

Never thought I'd see Guru placed in the bad voice category. You do know that the reason he's so well loved is mainly the voice, right?
