I honestly think any hiphop artist with a release to announce in the next couple months should put that shit on hold. it's about to get real.

We haven't even hit upon the Kristoff Krane release that's coming out.

I really hope he doesn't get totally smothered by the excitement around everyone else's album. We'll do our part. First single drops soon.

But, yeah, this is an exceptionally hefty period for indie-hop releases.

C'mon crybabies Russell Jones isn't your dead little brother. He was a charismatic weirdo who couldn't really string a rhyme together on his own but did weird magic with verses that were written for him by (and/or that he stole from) his friends, and then engineers had to work like dogs to place that shit on the beat and make it sound sort of realistic. Listen to "Got Your Money" some time - EVERY SINGLE LINE is cut up and arranged because he was not a competent rapper.

But he was a genius, and we love him, and it's okay. But Danny Brown - for all of his shortcomings, and there are many - is a much better artist than Russell Jones was. I don't like him better, or as much, but he's better at it.

Get a kleenex.

On "Ni**a Please," it's quite obvious that he was drugged/burned/wldin' out...and the producer had to cut and paste all of his lines together. I'm guessing they just stuck him in the vocal booth when they could access him and they were like, "OK...go off." And they worked with the results. In fact, they worked miracles with it. For what it's worth, that's one of the best travel albums ever. But his style, his sing-rap style, his charisma, rhymes, voice, humor, originality and energy (including many moments on this album and everything before it) do not suggest that he is incompetent as a rapper. Quite the contrary. I feel like I'm understating my point, but then I'd have to speak on Danny Brown compared to ODB and I'd rather just leave well enough alone.

Agreed. No more derailing the original purpose of this thread. If you want to talk ODB, open a new thread. If you want to talk any other rapper that's been discussed, don't start a new thread. Post about it on your facebook page or something.
