Adam Yauch died today. That sucks. The Beastie Boys were the group besides RUN DMC that got me into hip hip back in '86. I still listen to thier music at least once a week.

This is horrible. Been a huge Beastie fan since I was a little kid and all through the years afterwards. Safe to say they are what got me into liking hip hop. Many memories... Usually my favorite part in their tracks is when his raspy voice cut in. Too sad.

Yeah, 47 is too young to die of cancer (assuming that's what it was at this point.)

This sucks, but dude left behind an impressive body of work, and did quite a bit in 47 years. We can all only hope we leave as much of a positive mark.

I was just thinking about them today when I saw the "driving songs" thread and thought of "High plains drifter" and the "radar deTECter, to tell me where the cops is.." line. I lurk on their forum a lot and heard some rumors he wasn't doing well recently. This sucks ass. Listened to them pretty much all my life, last saw them live in 2007, 2 days in a row they played an amazing show.

Super sad. The Beastie Boys were a huge part of my youth and their albums are still in constant rotation. I can remember my first exposure to them and how reluctant I was to check out their album. Mainly because they were white and MCA looked like my uncle. Once I checked out the album there was no turning back. Like millions of other kids, I fantasized about being a member of the Beasties. Here's to all the long lip-syncing sessions I had in front of the bedroom mirror to "License to Ill" and "Paul's Boutique."

I think it's also important to note that MCA is one of the only figures in hiphop to acknowledge moral mistakes he made in the past while trying to correct them as he moved forward. Have you ever seen a legendary musician apologize to females for the negative bullshit they spit on record? Ever? This guy did and he kept it moving. He attached himself to honorable causes and continued to help make classic albums with the Beasties. I can only imagine how devastated those guys are right now. They were best friends for so long.

Sad, sad loss. RIP Mr. Yauch
Salute

So true. I can't say in words how much respect for MCA and the BB I have on so many levels. So sad.

This is really tough to process at this time.

For someone with limited exposure to hip hop when I was younger, they really gave me my first taste. Such an iconic group now reduced to two, so damn sad to have to bear witness to cancer taking great people from their loved ones and the many people whose lives they influenced.

RIP
