| My iPod was stolen, but iCloud found it. |
|
|
Hey everyone,
I'm really at a crossroads over this issue. The other night (Late Wed/Early Thurs) my ipod got stolen out of my car. I forgot to lock it, so i'm pretty sure i don't have any compensation coming via insurance. But I did file a police report.
here's where it gets interesting. I logged into iCloud (formerly MobileMe) hoping to utilize the GPS-locator in an effort to find my stolen ipod. But the thieves had not used the wifi yet (required to find on an ipod touch.)
So i waited, searching. After coming home from dinner i checked the status and BOOM! It was there, maybe 25min drive from where it was stolen.
I immediately notified the police, who sent out a cop, who took down the info/evidence that was available, and told me he'd call me if it turned up while sending a few units to the house to check things out. And to also call the cops if it moved.
Then this morning it did. Across the street, one house down, motherfuckers.
I notified the cops again, told him the whole story, and now i'm waiting for something to happen.
So i'm wondering if i should just go get it myself. |

Having had my house broken into and many things stolen, I know firsthand how useless cops are. Have they even done anything about the fact that your iPod is two houses away, yet? |

i'm not sure i haven't followed-up after the 3rd report i made yesterday (about it moving.)
I'm thinking that maybe they'll build a case against the thieves. the 2nd cop i spoke to actually commented that 3 other cars were stolen from/broken into in the same night, so it's not just an ipod.
But yeah, maybe the 5-0 doesn't wanna show their hand yet. Worse comes to worse, my serial has been entered into the database of stolen gadgets that (hopefully) if it gets sold to/at a pawn shop, it'll pop on the database and give some more information to the situation. |
