Maybe it's because I haven't read a fantasy novel since I was a teenager and the sort of thing just isn't for me, but I just started reading the first book, and while I wouldn't go so far as to say it's terrible, it is definitely not good writing.

Peter Dinklage (who plays Tyrion) just won an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor!

I haven't read any of the books at all but this show is so amazingly good.

Soooo good. Droolingly good. Fantasy matured to a broader genre with more humanity and more possibilites good. Exciting stuff.

I don't know who the girl who plays Arya Stark is but she is like Emma Watson combined with Christina Ricci and she could potentially be huge. She's awesome.

Finished the fourth book last week. Refuse to read the next one until it's in paperback because I hate hardback editions for a variety of reasons. Now, I just need to find time to watch the show.

So, any thoughts on the first episode of season 2?

Oh man, last night's episode was so good. So many pieces being put in place, it's looking like shit is about to get all kind of crazy up in Westeros. I loved Tyrion's entrance back into Kings Landing, and his subsequent conversations with Cersei.

"Must be hard for you... To be the disappointing child."
"You love your children. That's your one redeeming quality. That and your cheekbones"

I'm so glad they gave Dinklage first billing this season, he definitely deserves it.

yeah the episode was tight! I think this season is going to be better than last season. The production value is on a whole new level... Rob's direwolf looked SICK!

I didn't like the Littlefinger scene. Made him look like a chump, running his mouth to the queen like that. That one wasn't in the book, right? Or am I remembering it wrong?

The direwolf did look cool. Tyrion's entrance was great,no doubt. How do people feel about the new characters? Stannis & co.?

It apparently wasn't in the book, and it was the first original scene the showrunners added that fans really seemed to have problems with. It was definitely out of character for LF, as he never makes any kind of move like that unless he knows he holds all the cards, but Cersei was also pushing his buttons with the reference to his love for Catlin. The show also needs to convey that Cersei is reckless and that her understanding of her power is inherently flawed. All of which is is difficult without inner monologue. I do agree that LF was a bad choice though, but I think that was the one flaw in an otherwise great episode.

So, I got HBOgo on my xbox and have been watching Game of Thrones and Deadwood.

Game of Thrones is some good tv for sure, but it can be a bit slow at times. I'm looking forward to season 2.

This week's episode marked the biggest departure I've seen so far from the books. So many characters are missing from this season… I'm thinking it was probably a good idea, the books are too big to film entirely, but it's still feels like a loss. That said, this season has been great.
