I don't own a gun. Someone stole my GPS out of my car the other day. I didn't feel any need to shoot them. They weren't rioting, then again, these rioters aren't breaking into houses and attacking people are they?

My employer had someone from the Netherlands come to our company for training. She said that before she came she was extremely worried about the amount of violence she'd run into when she flew in. Her friends wanted her to check in with them regularly and were very concerned about her. Of course, once she actually arrived at the bustling metropolis of Portsmouth, NH, she was relieved that it was no more dangerous than Delft.

From reading this thread, I'd say their fears were probably not unjustified. Apparently the solution to violence in America is simply "shoot them".

Now you're just straw manning. I never said I wanted to shoot anybody. I don't want to even hurt them really. But I do want to not get robbed. But what's your (or anyone else who's anti-gun's) solution? Someone breaks into your house and you what? Hand everything over?

And it's not like you just open fire. You draw your gun and tell them to get down on their knees and put their hands on their head and then if they keep coming towards you maybe you have to shoot them. Also a gun doesn't have to be loaded with bullets. A shotgun blast of rock salt will put someone down for the count.

Finally, the only way your friend would get shot by anyone with my beliefs is if she tried to rob or assault me.

I lied. I own one. But still. Instead of "Knifecrime Island," maybe we should call it "Baseball bat crime island."

It all kicked off pretty close to home for me today; 5 mins up the road in Peckham.. Pretty nuts how it's been spreading. A little worrying as I live on a high street above a shop, but I don't think our road is a likely target.

Seen some reports from West Croydon just now Rotty..

My flatmate just came back from Peckham and said it's mental, he's just headed off to the Walworth Road to report for the Beeb. I'm barricaded in. Mancabbage, I'll see your baseball bat and raise you a Ninja Turtle:
