| Run DMC and Jam Dr Pepper. Wow. |
|
|
I know this was posted on the messageboard before but I saw the commercial just now.
I am sitting in my Super 8 hotel room in Sioux Falls, SD.
To my right is the television.
I heard LL Cool J rapping about Dr Pepper...and how it promoted individuality. And then I saw Run and DMC saying random shit. And then the end of the commercial shows someone who looks like Jam Master Jay playing with turntables (might actually be JMJ, but his head was down) and then they say "Run DMC and Jam DR PEPPER!"
I feel...very confused as to how people could allow this. Even if the commercial was made before his death. Is there any explanationof this commercial that I have missed? |

The best explanation I've heard was on DJ Shadow's "Why Hiphop Sucks In '96" track off of endtroducing.... |

I mean, it doesn't taste like pepper and it's not made by doctors
and what's the deal with New England, it's over 200 years old, last time I checked, that's not that new. |

"Run DMC and Dr. Pepper" LOL!
I ain't gonna criticize it though cause most kids who watch MTV and BET or for that matter take their listening cues from TV have no idea who RUN-DMC is or what impact their music had. If this commercial causes them to go out buy and listen to "Raising Hell" and "Tougher than leather" hell its done its job in my book.
Dr. Pepper was invneted in Waco Texas by the way and was originally a medicine hence the "Dr."
Whats strange is I notced that most places on the East Coast don't even know what Dr. Pepper is, when I asked for it in NYC they didn't have a clue what it was.
I have more of a problem with people like Lance Armstrong doing commercials for the "Subaru WRX" and "Comcast Cable TV" as theres no alternative effect of his endorsement than the obvious.

I do not really give into all hate when I see rappers turn into the grass in the mouth of the capitalist cow cuz money makes the world go round (according to a well-known raper). we have to live with it an shiled ourselves from these suckers!

When that spot first aired, it ended with a photo of Jam Master Jay and the words "In Memory of Jason Mizell/Jam Master Jay." Looks like they dropped that.
That "Jam -- Dr. Pepper" is disrespectful, especially without the tribute ending.
And by the way, I wonder if Joey Ramone would have ever approved using "Blitzkrieg Bop" to sell an AT&T plan.

For some reason I've always blocked out the ending of the commercial, even tho I KNEW what it said..."Run-DMC and Jam DR. PEPPER" and I wonder why they dropped the "In memory of" at the end.
So, Dr. Pepper was invented in Waco, eh? That explains a lot. |
