I think you should put Obama in the "pop-star politician" catagory as well. BIG TIME.

Didn't want to create an entirely new thread for this, so her momma's will have to do.

Bristol Palin’s Nonprofit Paid Her Seven Times What It Spent On Actual Teen Pregnancy Prevention.

In 2009, Sarah Palin’s daughter Bristol joined a teen pregnancy prevention nonprofit called the Candie’s Foundation. Today, the Associated Press reported that the Candie’s Foundation released its 2009 tax information, revealing that Bristol was paid a salary of $262,500.

But a closer examination of the tax form by ThinkProgress shows that the group disbursed only $35,000 in grants to actual teen pregnancy health and counseling clinics

The foundation was just supposed to supply her with a new pair of Candies each day. Sounds legit to me.

I feel like 1% vindicated here. Only 1% because still nobody looks into it. But this so obviously required looking into. It's nuts.

The best part about this article is the comment section.

Quote:

Erin in upstate Manhattan
I've never heard of a teenager having a baby with Downs Syndrome. I've only heard of women over 40 having kids with that illness. I've emailed this asshole regarding his flawed intelligence. Let's see if he responds.

As much as I do not like Sarah Palin, I don't appreciate people slandering children of any parentage. Especially children with disabilities. Who ever started this shit can just fuck off.

Later, after several comments from others knocking her down, she says:

Please don't see me as the enemy. I am just angry that anyone would target a disabled child. That is why I am saying fuck off. Because, really? A kid with Downs Syndrome? Fuck off!

Even further down she asks:

How would a pregnancy or a child determine a woman's ability to govern?

Finally Bitterman comes in and separates the chaff:

I think you meant to ask "How would a candidate's willingness to lie to cover up an inconvenient truth at odds with her public stance determine her ability to govern in an honest and transparent fashion?"

Yeah. Seriously. We don't have an ongoing birther/Obama thread, but your comment indirectly reminded me of all the Trump articles I've been seeing while I read my political blogs.

White Americans allow their imagination to get caught up with this conspiracy theory because he's black. And black is different then what white people are used to for the skin color of the Commander and Chief. Geez.

Some day soon, someone is so going to write a sociology paper about Obama and the birther movement and the state of race relations in the United States.

nobody except Steve Quinn of the Associated Press, Erika Bolstad of McClatchy Newspapers, Sam Bishop (now) of the Fairbanks News-Miner, Julia O'Malley of the Anchorage Daily News, Cherie Shirey and Andrea Gusty of KTVA, Lori Tipton of KTUU, and, in a long recounting of his own, the Anchorage Daily News' Wesley Loy.

Some heavy hitters there.

That's a pretty lame article that while certainly debunking the extreme supercynical aspects of the whole idea, leaves a lot left unanswered.
