Dude said everything I have been saying about this. Sigh. I don't understand why this country just repeats the same mistakes over and over and over. We're going to repeat these mistakes until we've got nothing left.

How can a country with the history that we have in intervening in other countries, feel at all like this is going to work out in a good way?

The notion that Obama is going to arm these guys now...I'm just taken aback. Flabbergasted.

One 9/11 wasn't enough?

No matter the political climate it seems like we perpetrate events that are leading to some particular outcome. I find it hard not to believe in conspiracy theory when shit like this continues to happen apparently against the best interests of our country.

I don't believe in conspiracy to the degree that there is a room of 12 people mapping every little thing out.

I do believe that systems have been put in place that different parties have figured out how to selfishly game, and those people like many through history of their level of society--have lost any sense of the balance needed for said systems to continue to work.

It's a smash and grab, and until we either invent a system that counteracts their urges--which I doubt--things will worsen until we end up with our own violent uprisings. I kind of wonder if the anti-virus to all of this is tied into the ways in which we are starting to become more and more connected, and information is becoming more and more liberated. I can see those things playing some sort of role in overthrowing the greedy hustlers that are bleeding us dry across every level of society.

But also sometimes it's just time for empires to die. Maybe we've run our course?

I think capitalism may have run it's course. As far as conspiracy goes, I mean, I agree that there aren't a small group of people planning the minutia. But isn't it possible there is a sort of 'shadow gov't' that may have motives that remain consistent despite who appears to be in power? I don't it's that far-fetched of an idea.

I doubt it's that organized. More a section of people who have a particular set of values that are passed down, combined with a particular level of access. I feel more like shit is on auto-pilot, and we just have to remember collectively that fact.

Capitlism, Democracy, Socialism, Communism, fascism--all of these systems have now failed us. The new system won't be something we've done recently.

Maybe the future is like a system of self-supporting micro-collectives, that are netted across the world with everyone else in a loose association that everyone participates in in real time--with the imperative being more techno-organic than industrial.

Sort of post apocalyptic hunting-gathering-farming meets trending topics as a form of governance?

We're probably on a path to depopulate on a traumatic level in order to lower our impact on the planet, and put more of a reliance on information.

Like once they can get information living around us, and everyone who is alive knows how to do everything simply by participation--I would think the need of a wide ranging nation state would cease to be. I mean if everyone can build dirty bombs or whatever--then the nation state is a bigger target and less safe than a loose network

Just thinking out loud.

I definitely like where you going with that. I have similar feelings inside as to where society is going to move. To me the most interesting development would be if somehow science proves that consciousness is non-localized, and can exist independent of the body. That would take society down an interesting path.

I do agree, society needs a new paradigm that hasn't existed yet. The independent mini-techno-commune seems like a likely sort of direction. To get there we will need some sort of massive destructive event though.

Which unfortunately isn't impossible. Did you see the stuff this week where they figured out they could carry messages from the brain into machines and computers using these organic tubes that the nerve connectors naturally spindle through?

We're getting this right around the time the discourse of the old machine/body dichotomy is starting to be argued not to be a dichotomy at all.

I suppose this is a huge tangent away from libya though.

i don't think that libya is a recruitment tool for al-qaida. if things got messy and we started killing blowing up wedding parties then yes. but right now gaddafi's forces aren't getting any sympathy, either from jihadi's or the arab street.

that guy on the left in the second video is a moron. "IS HE YOUR PRESIDENT????". jesus christ.

Quote:

Islamist leaders and their contingent of followers represent a relatively small minority within the rebel cause. They have served the rebels’ secular leadership with little friction. Their discipline and fighting experience is badly needed by the rebels’ ragtag army.

Among his followers, Mr. Hasady has the reputation of a trained warrior who stood fearlessly at the front ranks of young protesters during the first days of the uprising.

And his discourse has become dramatically more pro-American, now that he stands in alliance with the West in a battle against Col. Gadhafi.

“Our view is starting to change of the U.S.,” said Mr. Hasady. “If we hated the Americans 100%, today it is less than 50%. They have started to redeem themselves for their past mistakes by helping us to preserve the blood of our children.”

Mr. Hasady also offered a reconsideration of his past approach. “No Islamist revolution has ever succeeded. Only when the whole population was included did we succeed, and that means a more inclusive ideology.”

there is one problem (actually there are a million but) with this shadow govt conspiracy, that being that people automatically assume that everybody has similar values. this is just not true, people like that would have self-serving motives and such motives would conflict with the other self-serving parties. if you hang with your friends and are trying to decide where to go to dinner, you have differing opinions on what to do. Now imagine, these so called powerful organizations, trying to decide the fate of the world. its just utter non-sense to think that way.

the claim that capitalism and democracy have failed is a huge stretch
