Aupheus "EXCAVATED" - inst & animation video  Reply with quote

Props to Buddy Peace for coining the term "doom-bap." It's a perfect fit.

The above audio is the title track to Aupheus' instrumental album "EXCAVATED" which is available NOW at:

Here's an animated video that Aupheus created in conjunction with the album's release:

'Excavated' is the second solo release from London's DJ/producer/beat-maker Aupheus. With over 12 years experience behind the turntables, Aupheus uses a combination of found sounds, obscure vinyl breaks, manipulated field recordings, turntable techniques and live instrumentation to construct punchy, industrial, moody, and ambient soundscapes.

We were hoping to get some CDs but it seems that he only pressed a limited few and he's all out of them now. We'll try to make sure that doesn't happen with whatever he works on next. Word is that Buddy Peace and Aupheus are collaborating on a project together.

haha yeah, man. I'm waiting for the rest of the people to recognize. We've got all these other threads dedicated to "pictures" and "beats" and "art" and "videos" and whatever else. Here's a dude doing it big on all levels. Aupheus isn't big on tooting his own horn so we're trying to toot it forum.

Here's something Aupheus wrote to accompany the video:

"I worked on this film in my spare time for well over a year. I’ve been working with visuals for as long as I’ve been making music and combining the two is something that I'm passionate about; one of the things I love about animation is that it means I get to work with drawing and sound simultaneously. I wanted to make something that was more like a short film as opposed to making a straight music video so I decided to rework the original track around a simple narrative inspired by the music. Alongside developing my music style, for the past few years I’ve been trying to develop an equivalent visual way of working. I’m a big fan of film soundtracks and music that conjures up strong visual imagery; this is something I try to do in my own music. I usually have a particular world in mind when I’m working on a track, and this is my attempt to try to visualise one of those worlds."

This is pretty sick

The animation is excellent. What are you using to do that with and will we be seeing more any time soon?

Thanks man.

I used a combination of pencil on paper, Flash, Photoshop and After Effects.

Yeah, hopefully there'll be more soon! I'm working on a new film right now and Buddy and I are also talking about working some animation into our collab.
