Yeah, unfortunately it's not really a cure. The patient was cured of HIV because the bonemarrow he received had natural resistance to the virus (only about 10-15% mainly white Europeans have this gene). It's a nice confirmation of what scientists expected, but it will not help the millions of people already living with HIV.
This is indeed an interesting point of conversation but completely irradiating someone and performing some of the more costly as well as most dangerous procedures that modern medicine has to offer is in my opinion not really worth declaring as a "cure". It's more a transplant.. we didn't cure aids.. we just transplanted the infected part out.
